JBP asked an interesting question on Maher that never really got a response. If the left is successful in overthrowing Trump via lawfare, what are you going to do with that 40% or so of Americans that support him? We're talking about millions of people here. How will you be skillful enough to prevent widespread demonstrations or worse, violence, as a response? "How many Wacos will it require to enforce the will of your desire?" Lots of armed crazy types out there that love them some Trump. I'm not saying they are justified or correct, but they are there.

Overthowing is an intersting word choice when it would take a heavily bipartisan group to successfully impeach and convict any sitting president.

You would hope the vast majority of those that support Trump would leave him, if he is indeed convicted of any sort of offense that warrants his removal from office.

If not then it would be down to the right wing propaganda machine sticking with their conspiracies which is the largest root of division in this country.

If you are worried about folks taking up arms and more Waco's and OKC's happening then you must understand the extreme right is a dangerous ally and allowing them to even be in the discussion of what if's is because people like you voted for a man who embraced the far right of this country. You would be complicit.

40% voting for him doesn't mean 40% actually support him. Most of them i bet simply voted for their parties nomination and because they are conservatives they would never vote democrat especially another Clinton. The most evil Clinton too boot.

Just like his current ratings i bet his actual base is about 15 to 18%. Of those who are genuine Trump fans that is.

Many conservatives turn a blind eye to his antics simply because your lot controls everything and so are willing to accept him. The GOP members pander to him to get their way too. It's a win win.

I honestly think that "actual base" number may be increasing. That or some third contingent is growing, those who held their nose to vote for Trump but are increasingly satisfied with what he's doing.

As for the overall topic, I don't think there is any basis for Trump's removal and I therefore think the idea of some far right violent rebellion isn't something to worry about.

Same as over here in that some people would vote Tory or Labour even if you put the blue/red rosette on a pig. The actual candidate doesn't matter it is the party they represent that is the key. In both nations it is the percentage of the floating voters you can attract that win you an election and they will flip flop between parties in mid term elections as we will see in the UK this week.

I'm glad Trump got rid of the Obamacare mandate and passed the biggest tax reform in 32 years. Not to mention cracking down on illegal immigration.

Impressed. Do you have a background in formal debate? This is very strong. I used to make this kind of argument often.

Since Buckley's leadership in casting out the Birchers and the KKK types from the ranks of conservatism in the 50's, the right has had to be very aware and alert to the depredations of those obsessed with race and violence within the midst of accepted conservative thought. Prior to the Johnson administration, most open racism in US politics was channeled through the Democratic party and its solid south strategy. Many longtime Republicans make exactly the same argument.

Where would we then draw the line for the left? Would an obsession with race and violence apply to their actions in a similar fashion?
