I would hazard that in both countries there is a fairly substantial portion of none minority section of the country, spread across geographical, age, political beliefs, education and gender, the only thing they may have in common is they are not too well off.
They may think, I won't say do think, but being one of these 'silent minority within the majority' Both results came as no surprise to me.

Back in the day it was 'simple' Labour was for the workers, the Tories weren't, The liberals, a throw back to Edwardian times, were for both workers and landowners strangely enough, in the countryside like Devon and such.

It seems to me that somewhere along the line Labour ( and by labour I mean the labour of Wilson ) stopped being the party of the Employed majority and became the party of the minorities (employed or not).
The Tories are, as ever, still for themselves
The Liberals don't exist any more
and the Lib Dems shouldn't
#disenfranchised

The thing is, I don't get this hang up about production rather than consumption. During communism, there was no unemployment in eastern Europe as it was strictly speaking illegal, yet their shops were largely empty. If we're talking about governing for a majority rather than a minority, then we should be representing consumers rather than producers as they're in considerably larger numbers, yet throughout this hand-wringing about globalisation there has been no mention of how much better our lives are as consumers.

Where has this fella actually come from ? I know he's a businessman and stuff. Did he wake up one morning and think " I know, I'll run for the presidency "

There's a number of ideas really. The first was that it was originally a publicity run for The Apprentice USA and a vanity exercise. The second was that he was backed by Clinton campaign to ensure a procession (hypernormal by Adam Curtis very good on this) . But ultimately, he's had yet another monster gamble and come up, er, trumps!

If it was a gamble, he might be sat in the Oval office with his staff re-enacting the end of Spike Milligan sketches .." What are we gonna do now ? , What are we gonna do now ? etc "

reckon the wall happen? i can see an easy get out clause of just putting in more border security 'we looked at the numbers and decided a human wall would be better blah, blahblah'

Absolutely mate. Funnily enough, I think we've ended up with a closet Democrat in the White House anyway and are likely to see a centrist drift

What should be more scary is not that this is a rise in bigotry, fascism, sexism etc. but that even the most ordinary people are so fed up with it all that they are willing to take a monstrous gamble for change.

Not the common oiks that should be scared - it's those in their ivory towers. Another shot across the bows been made over there - but see below

If he still has the energy someone like Bernie Sanders is going to be very difficult to beat next time round.

Yes. Should've been him this time, he'd have tore trump one as bug as the grand canyon. The 'anti establishment/protest' vote has seen that bequiffed nugget get in.

Nice one all those what voted hilary in the democratic nomination - it's YOUR fault. YOU put trump in more than any Trump voter did. You bad warmongering, closet racists :dodgy::p

Won't be Bernie next time, I reckon. I just hope there's another like him coming up through the democratic ranks.
