Donald Trump for President Thread

Whilst the whole thing is shocking and not how I would have chosen it, I do take some pleasure in the reasoning behind it.

People who feel that they are constantly being trodden on deciding to stand up for themselves and use the ballot to reject it.

Unfortunately (and possibly because Clinton was on the paper rather than Sanders), I've got to feel that they've massively shot themselves in the foot by their choice of saviour.

Comment from the Clinton camp on Sky News just now....

"He has his finger on the nuclear button, what does that mean for the world?"

Nothing really. Trump knows just as well as everyone else - one presses the button, everyone presses. Hence why it will never be pressed by anyone. All the world leaders know the consequences. It is scaremongering like this that finished off the Clinton vote.

Not really, they had the choice of two people, not lots of choice.

You do like a bit of rhetoric but it flags up that you don't really understand what you are talking about.

Cmon, I know we've had Trump and Farage just shoving stuff out there and expecting to be believed without any scrutiny, but on pretty much any metric you care to think of, life today in any western country is infinitely better than it's ever been before, and that's from OECD data.

I'd love to know this golden age that you speak of.

Bruce - there are hundreds of thousands of people in this country who use food banks. There are millions of people in agency and zero-hours labour, which is much less secure even than traditional employment. A large number of young people cannot afford their own home, or even to rent their own home. A university education now requires getting into tens of thousands of debt unless you come from a well-off family.

Those statistics may claim everyone is better off than their parents were; the reality for many is that they are not.

This made me laugh this morning. From Kent Online, the website of the Kent Messenger newsgroup.

"Kent is today reeling as the most shocking US election upset unfolds".lol

Yep, on the drive to work this morning, I saw people literally falling into gutters, crashing into trees....

It appears that Donald Trump will be the next President of the United States of America. His nominal party has control of both houses of Congress, and the next nominee to the Supreme Court will be under his direct control.

My question:

How do you feel now about limiting the power of government and its impact on the individual?

So.....2016......

Britain votes to leave the EU.....
America votes Trump as President......
Roberto Martinez takes charge of the Belgium national side......

Unbelievable...... lol

Back in the day, revolution and change could only be won through hardship. A Trump presidency could well be that, but you have to imagine that something will finally change. That's enough for some people

Not relatively Bruce. You know as well as I that mobility and life chance opportunities for successive generations is narrowing.

Just thinking out loud.

Why is it that the general view of these results (election / EU exit) are deemed that the idiots won, the stupid people won, the racists won, you know all negative things because the common sense vote is opposite to the result?

Because....you know, the other side won. Which makes MORE people than the 'right view' on the matter disagree with it.

same as this right now, more Americans backed trump over clinton. Therefore for all the moaning arsing that will take place in the aftermath, voting clinton is surely the minority view and trump the majority? Just because the losing side shout and moan the loudest does not make them right, which in perspective is kinda the argument thrown at the winning side as to why they are stupid to vote for that result in the first place.
