The Durham Police were pushed into investigating Cummings because of accusations including this falsified one. Police time has been wasted, so either prosecute the guy that made up the story or the journalist who ran with it. Either way it was a lie that was published nationally, which many on here then quoted as if it were the absolute truth, resulting in a police investigation. And now, because the investigation didn’t give the left the answer it wanted, the Police Chief is to be investigated. A witch hunt, based on a lie, lapped up by those who wanted to believe it, has wasted Police time and effort, and they should be prosecuted.....
lying to the press isn’t an offence though ie it ? I take your point about the police investigation , I have my own thoughts about it , that might probably surprise you . To extrapolate a lie to the a journalist to wasting police time feels tenuous at best and would be a worrisome Road to go down .
I’m not defending the liar I think it’s pathetic and the individual is worthy of ridicule and if Cummings chose to sue he’d have every right , although I’d suspect both political and legal advice may be to leave it .
The whole matter has been pathetic in a number of senses of the word , personally I’ve probably been more annoyed by the failure to offer a single apology, the blanket defences and the AG statement than the acts Themselves . I dislike being lied to so the liar about events the Cummings lies , which I’m sure you see as I do , I find insulting but we are where we are . I’m also surprised that a man who can judge the public mood got his response so wrong.
am I annoyed about someone lying about seeing him ? Yes I think it’s pathetic and I am annoyed about Cummings ‘testing his eyesight’ lie , of course I find it insulting . I’m not going to cherry pick what lies are right or wrong .
