So now that the ‘Second Cummings’ to Durham has now been identified as false and made up for a bit of a laugh, what do people think should happen to the guy who wasted police time and made everyone forget about isolating and immediately rushing to the beach.....anything.....

I assume @peteblue is referring to the Mail article that is purposefully making it seem like the story was made up when that’s not the case. He’s either not read the story or not been able to parse it properly.

im prepared to bet he didn’t lie to the police about it , if he did he’s wasted police time and I’d happily see him dealt with He’s a balloon . I’ve only briefly looked at the article but I think we have a differential between the man who saw Cummings and reported him to the police and someone who appears to have lied to journalists .

It does appear to be at attempt to be a huge distraction from the initial story that won’t go away , this alleged breach based on a lie seemed to get Almost zero Traction. unlike the actual story based on a host of lies Which seems to be hanging around .

If we’re going to proceed with criminal charges with people lying to journalists then I’d suggest it’ll be a while until we get through the pending list til we get to this fella .

Police time has been wasted, so either prosecute the guy that made up the story or the journalist who ran with it. Either way it was a lie that was published nationally, which many on here then quoted as if it were the absolute truth, resulting in a police investigation. And now, because the investigation didn’t give the left the answer it wanted, the Police Chief is to be investigated. A witch hunt, based on a lie, lapped up by those who wanted to believe it, has wasted Police time and effort, and they should be prosecuted.....

It’s not against the law to tell a lie. It is against the law if that lie results in Police time being wasted. The journalist and paper responsible need to be held to account.....
