2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

….i’ve done 2 April Fool threads on this forum;

April 1st 2024; Dyche Sacked. Turns out it wasn’t an April fool, it actually happened.
April 1st 2025; DCL signs New Contract; maybe it wasn’t an April Fool, it could also happen.
Not sure you get to "claim" this one? He was sacked 9 months later and even Stevie Wonder could see it was going to happen at some point.

Barring the Villa game which was still dyches team.

He has had 103 minutes under Moyes and has a goal and assist.

If he is fit for this weekend and plays every game until end of season, how many goals would you want him to get to think it’s worth Moyes taking a punt on him? As if he scores a few, it would be an indicator of Moyes being able to get more out of him.

Did Dom miss a sitter in the Villa game deliberately because it was ‘still Dyche’s team’.

Couldn’t care less what he does in the next 4 games, I’ve watched him for 10 years. We need better.

When fit and firing, we know he's a handful who makes us play better football as he brings others onto play.

But those games have been very VERY few and far between the last 4 seasons and his injury record dictates that unless it's a punt at 50k per week, it would be terrible business.

No good having squad numbers if they aren't available and he's obviously worked so hard under Dyche to get fit but we seen how easily he broke down at Brighton and bang, 3 months out again. We know that'll happen again, just a matter of when and not if.

It’s a confidence game as well though. And he was completely shot of confidence (as were many players) under Dyche.

His goal was excellently taken vs spurs.

Was just a hypothetical, as Moyes clearly gets more out of players than Dyche managed.

That may be it mate it could be as simple as asset management and PSR.

Keep DCL, 0 in ammortisation.

Sell Beto, book the profit, meet PSR.

Sign a new starting striker.

DCL becomes our B striker, game here and there and he plays a role also minding his body.

While we have the option to flog him.

In the meantime means we have to do less heavy lifting recruiting in the summer.

Keeping him is the clever play.
I can get on board with this easier than *cough* some others

…which is the flaw in the argument that it’s good business to keep him on a new contract due to PSR etc.

Newcastle and Forest were supposed to be interested, subject to medical opinion - can we infer that noises about him resigning for us means that they have dropped out of the picture?

And if we can, then that means that two other sets of expert medics have vetoed…

Doesn’t virtually every manager get sacked at some point? (Certainly from clubs that don’t win things)

And I believe a player signing a new contract is also fairly common.

Wow, 140k a week 😱😱😱
Where is this coming from, mate?

If we are the only prem club that is willing to talk to him now, I would times the figure he’s after by whatever percentage his availability has been over the course of his current contract.

And then give him the opportunity to make up the rest in various performance bonuses.
