2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

….i’ve done 2 April Fool threads on this forum;

April 1st 2024; Dyche Sacked. Turns out it wasn’t an April fool, it actually happened.
April 1st 2025; DCL signs New Contract; maybe it wasn’t an April Fool, it could also happen.
For April 1st 2026 can you do one about Everton winning the league, please. And also one about a windmill operator from Camberwick Green meeting Winona Ryder. Please and thank you.

Honestly would much rather let him go, don't like his attitude or his work rate. Was given so many chances by Dyche to the point Beto was doing interviews crying because he couldn't get in the team. DCL performs well for one game under Moyes and now we're talking about a new contract??

All said and done he's been a good servant to the club and his performance in the derby last season will go down in history, but it's time to move on. DCL/Broja out the door, Delap & somebody else in. Maybe Richarlison but not as a number 9, far far better as a winger or 10.

HE DOES NOT SCORE.

Surely important for a striker?

He scored in his last full game under Moyes. It was a good goal too.

If you just lump a ball up to your striker and hope he does something amazing, then likely they won't score many. That was it under Dyche. If you create patterns of play that suit a strikers game, like get good wingers who can put in dangerous crosses for someone who is good in the air, you never know we may see a decent goal return.

Moyes would have to sign off on this and if he thinks it's in our benefit, then let's get behind the player and team. The concern is his injury record and whether he can stay fit enough. If the club think we can sell him in 12-18 month's time for an amount that would cover all we've paid in that time, we've not lost anything by trying. I still don't see him signing another deal here though, in part due to the lack of love, for someone who has scored goals to keep us up and win a derby.

Exactly ,his best spell was under Ancelotti being fed be James

According to Transfermkt he's missed:

24/25 - 14 games (so far)
23/24 - 6 games
22/23 - 29 games
21/22 - 33 games.

Let's say conservatively it's a 38 game season (omitting cups) that means he's only been available for selection for 53% of matches in the last 4 years. It's less when you add in cup games and probably under 50%.

His goalscoring record would need to be phenomenal to justify keeping him on the books with those injury stats. And, yes, we have a new manager so his goalscoring record would hopefully improve, but what level does that need to reach to warrant keeping him on the books (accounting for the fact that his injury record suggests he's only available for 50% of games)?

I'd be surprised if he's a 20 goal a season striker, so let's say best case is he scores 14 in a season, averaged over his injury record that's 7 goals.

The decision then becomes is there someone cheaper who will score 7 goals a season/is there someone for equivalent price who will score more goals?

I like DCL as a player, but I wouldn't keep him on current wages.

Barring the Villa game which was still dyches team.

He has had 103 minutes under Moyes and has a goal and assist.

If he is fit for this weekend and plays every game until end of season, how many goals would you want him to get to think it’s worth Moyes taking a punt on him? As if he scores a few, it would be an indicator of Moyes being able to get more out of him.

Even if he scored 200 goals between now and the end of the season I still wouldn't want to sign him. Whatever words you use, he simply isn't good enough.

A big factor for me was his best scoring season was in front of empty grounds .
There is not the same pressure without a crowd especially for a player who misses most of his one on one's.
We should not be giving him a new contract at any cost, its time for him to move on.

Always supported DCL, but it's time to go. Let's not offer him a new contract unless as a back up player and substantially less than what he is probably on now.

Realistically where is he going to go after this? At best a promotion side, and more likely championship level.
