2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

….not sure if Delap played but what I remember from our first game was looking at the Ipswich fans forum and how totally impressed they were with DCL.

Fans saying he was the epitome of PL striker and what they have to aspire too.

Roll on a few months and posters want Delap and are fuming over the prospect of DCL staying here.

Its a funny old game.
Delap played, subed off on 78 minutes. They may have been impressed by his performance on the day, and he has looked good at times for us, but if they were watching him play every week, not scoring or picking up injuries they would be as frustrated as a lot of us are with him.

Don't get the hostility, me.

A lot of it I figured was around expecting/inevitability feeling of him getting off. "He's crap anyway"

If I was him, I wouldn't have signed the contract either. We must have been the worst team in the league for years for a striker. People here slating Dyche/negative football, and in the same breath slate a number 9 who doesn't fancy it. C'mon...

He'll definitely have offers, undoubtedly.

If we've now convinced him, tremendous. We're selling Beto. They want silly money for Broja - we'll have a very handy, rotational/backup striker in Calvert-Lewin. They won't bank on him to play 30+ games, that's for sure.

It would be a travesty to lose such a PSR friendly 'asset' for zilch.

We've been experts over the years at setting players up the fail - none more so than him. Get some pace in the squad, and ability to pass forward or cross a bloody ball and he's a big asset to the team.
Agree with you thing for me if he does sign i dont want him to be the number striker when off form. That was poor management from dyche, i dont blame him for looking around because is a short career nothing wrong looking out for yourself. I do prefer him staying over beto but was also open to him leaving because whatever happens this summer real competition must be bought in uptop. I would honestly bring in atleast two with one being a striker and the other a striker who csn play out wide like a gakpo at the rs.

It was Dyche not the club.

If we have funds, I want to get rid of all 3 of them. DCL is a sicknote and can’t score.

Id keep Beto unless he's unhappy.

Personally think getting rid of all 3 makes a striker situation worse. Brining in 1 quality striker who you put all the pressure only gets you so far.

The other issue is goals from other areas of the pitch

It's simply because signing a striker with 17 goals in four seasons isn't a good decision for any money.

I'd love to know what these offers are.

He didn't want to sign 12 months ago, now look at him.

Maybe he didn't want to sign one under the previous manager, but does now under a better manager? Maybe he wanted to sign, and the club didn't want to?

Anyway, everyone was winging he didn't want to sign, he now does so maybe people can give him some credit?

DCL missed 3 glorious chances and should have been walking off with the match ball, but it was one of those games where he done everything but score with some really poor finishing.

Agreed but I think he's got a lot more to his game. I could see him doing very well at the Arse , in fact he might even take them to the title.

Doubt it. If he's lucky Silva will want him at Fulham. West Ham will probably be in for him aswell. Wonder what sort of deal he actually wants as Newcastle seemingly baulked at his demands last summer when it seemed a deal might happen and he's coming up to the last big contract of his career.

I have a feeling he'll go abroad. As I thought his main focus is to get fit for the final Goodison game, score in it and at least then that's a better memory to leave the fanbase than the very difficult last four years so I hope he accomplishes that.

I admire you wanting to see the positive side. I just feel like I've seen him miss too many clear cut chances, and as a result don't trust his technique, both on the floor and in the air.

He is a more than an adequate as back up striker, especially when you consider even your average forward coming in to compete for a starting place will cost us in transfer fee.
It makes more sense to sell Beto and get DCL to sign a deal. Then spend some money on a new forward that will most likely start most weeks.
