His form will be fine when not being coached by a footballing terrorist.

We saw him under a world class coach, he scored 21 goals.
We saw him under terrible coaches, he scored 6 or 7 goals.
Lets see what he does under Moyes.

But for now Beto is firmly in the driving seat and I hope he takes full advantage of Moyes ball.

He owes us nothing and we owe him nothing, so if we commit to 30m in wages, its a bargain in my eyes.

We paid 3m+ for somebody like Danjuma.

Im biased, I know, but hes worth every penny.

I would still rather he moved on, cos large portions of this fanbase just will never accept him.
Can't keep clinging to one purple patch half a decade ago. If we want to progress we need a better starting striker. So either he goes and we buy a starting striker or he stays on like 5-6m a year and we still need to go buy a starting striker. That's probably not an arrangement that suits him or us. Shake hands and move on.

All good in theory, but our recent past is defined by counting down the minutes until mega contracts expire because we've had players on terms no one else would dream of matching. MAYBE we could turn some sort of profit, maybe not, but for me committing 30m in wages to an injury prone striker with the worst statistical finishing in the league would indicate no lessons learned.

You know I think he is probably 6 mill a year to us.

I’ll qualify that by saying, I’m not his biggest fan, I don’t think he'll ever consistently get 10 goals a season.

But from a business point of view he’s worth 5/6 mill in investment to another PL club, so I think he’s worth that investment to us. The draw is he’s amortisation free and still retains a value. Hes worth 6 mill a year in wages to us.

We need to move on from him, we need to invest in forwards, but I also see that happening if he stays, so I’d prefer him in the squad as a Beta striker, rather then having to buy a couple - Beto I can see moving on, Chermitti may or may not make it. It’s an area that will need investment more so if he leaves. Something we’ve also struggled with is having a back up forward who offers genuine depth - Kone, Valencia, Niasse, Mauapy - DCL would be good in the squad.

I’m also going to say this as a confirmed Moyes acolyte, David Moyes and his teams rarely rely on a no 9 to score goals, in fact the 9 isn’t really under huge pressure to score 10-15 goals in his systems - he’s happy for the no 9 to be the arrow point and contribute with a few, with goals coming maybe from wide forwards or deeper centrally like a Cahill. Not that the striker doesn’t contribute to goal scoring but his teams rarely are set up for the striker to score 15 goals.

So to summarise the above I think Moyes will be a big admirer of DCL as he can fill what I describe above very well and probably more cheaply then on the open market.

I agree with all of this, but the big worry is the injuries for me mate.

I like Dom but I feel his best days are behind him. Beto’s solid and on paper producing the same goals in a fraction of the matches.

Dom needs to sold and given a handshake and thank you. He’s also injury-prone. He’s been a servant of the club but I feel his time to serve is over.

We have to move forward and be confident when we do by investing in better players instead of retaining someone for nostalgia and emotions. If Dyche stayed, we might very well see Dom starting next season. Moyes has no real ties to him and is more shrewd.

He scored 5 goals in his last 22 appearances for Carlo. Hardly earth shattering. He also had a separate 10 game league drought under Carlo.

He’s had a lucrative career based on not very much at all.

The fact that we are begging this guy to sign the contract is a sad indictment of where we are as a cloob. Wouldn't be arsed in the slightest if he left onna free.

Beto has been described as limited and not good enough throughout his time here, yet one thing he’s proven he can do is slot. DCL is almost the polar opposite; technically better, holds the ball up well and is a good target man, but can’t really slot.

But what do you actually want your striker to do? Bag, of course. Can easily argue that playing to Beto’s strengths (through balls resulting from actual build up play) will serve us better long term than playing to Dom’s, and that buying creative players with vision capable of playing through balls will likely mean we’re a better side overall anyway.

I’d argue DCL is just as limited as Beto but in a different way. Don’t think he wants to stay either for what it’s worth, but he’s never worth more than £100k p/w given his goal and injury record, and if we want to improve as a side lumping it up to a target man may not be the future anyway.

I would rather just take the chance on Beto and see where he is at. If you can get him to stand on his two feet consistently by the start of next season, there is a real player there. His balance needs to be worked on big time. He does however needs more credit for the way he curled his run for the second goal. I do think he has smarter movement than Dom and that is one of the reasons that Dom lacks chances and ends up offsides a lot. Beto needs to learn the other parts of the game though.
