Simms won’t spend much of his career in the Prem.

To be fair to Maupay, we haven’t played him off another striker, or wide in a fluid front 3. Or in a side that moves the ball on the floor quickly. We’ve let him down as much as the other way around.

He never played that way at Brighton, tbh - or very rarely - or Brentford.

He's a player who can work in a system where you have more of the ball and get more players up the pitch in support.

But he can't hold it up, he can't bring others into play aerially.

The goal he scored v West Ham, and ironically the chance he missed v Liverpool, are the only real times we've seen us play to his strengths.

That's not to excuse him at all. He's just not that good of a player, but the fit is what was wrong more than anything.

Far too much obsession with how someone 'profiles' in different teams without taking context into account.

These are very smart, good football people. I think both players clearly have flashes of talent. But they didn't fit needs that were blatantly obvious to the squad.

We need to plan for him being unavailable and build a system designed for other players. When he is available we need to see it as a bonus. Even 20 mins off the bench is helpful.

We cannot play a system designed for Dominic Calvert-Lewin when he is not available.

Paddy in the Athletic has summed it up this morning, though. We've gone and hired a manager whose system is even more reliant on Dom than Lampard was.

The issue is our best system by far is the one that suits not only Dom but all of our better players, bar maybe Iwobi, who isn't good enough to build an entire system around when the rest of the pieces aren't there.

I would be amazed if he manages 5 more starts this season. I just don't think the kid is up for the fight
