Does Moyes' reign look better with hindsight given the dismal performances of his successors?

All our permanent managers after Moyes have effectively stunk the place out. When Martinez, Koeman and Allardyce departed, they had all long outstayed their welcomes. I appreciate that a lot of people still feel animosity toward Moyes, but based on his performance as Everton manager, he was leagues better than any of his successors have been. He got us into the top 4 (which he still doesn't get enough credit for), led us to an FA Cup Final, and got us further in Europe than any manager since Kendall. He did this on a comparatively small budget. If Moyes had the money that Martinez and Koeman had, I reckon he would have spent it much more wisely. He also wouldn't have stood for transfer targets being dictated to him by a DOF, which has been a disaster for us thus far.

Moyes done an amazing job here IMO, the game has moved on and he hasn't IMO and I can see him being an outdated dinasaur like sam in 10yrs time. Saying that, I do believe that if he had been given 40m a season or so when he was here, at that time , I think he would have broken the glass ceiling, we were so close but bill couldn't or wouldn't find anyone to back us.

A dullard who achieved nothing in 11 years. As for the "we played some decent stuff at times"...if you can count those performances on one hand over the course of a decade that sort of defeats the claim in the assertion.

He killed United, Sociedad, Sunderland and almost killed West Ham. An appalling manager.

Anyone that thinks el fraudo is a good manager shouldn't really be taken seriously in any other manager thread IMO

Also, if you look at where both managers started with us, and left us, it highlights how Martinez did more negative than good here unfortunately.

Moyes came in with us having finished 16th the season before, and at the time he took over, we were 1 point above the relegation places, level with the might of Ipswich and Bolton, and behind clubs like Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Fulham. When he departed he had us in 6th, above Liverpool.

Martinez on the other hand took over after that season we finished 6th, and departed with us sat down in 12th, having finished a dismal 11th the season before.

We made significant progress under Moyes during his tenure, yet went significantly backwards under Martinez.

Yes. But apart from Martinez's first season, we have veered from mediocrity to stinking which isn't exactly a high bar to set a standard to.

On occasion, especially before Arteta's big injury, we played some very nice stuff - it may only have been for a dozen games but he clearly could manage. However, lack of money, and overstaying his time here and getting stale in the last few seasons, and the manner of his departure to Man United blots his copybook too much for me to get upset if someone has it in for him.

It is incredibly rare for a manager to get 11 years at any club, let alone a top flight one at the right end of the table.

He deserves credit for putting us back up there and keeping us there, however for 11 years you would expect a trophy of some sort. Even getting top 4 didn't mean anything in the end as we didn't benefit from it.

40M would have bought us more Bilys and Beatties.

Working on a shoestring actually did him a massive favour in a way.

He did what he did and we did play some good football at times, but his record since suggests we are probably better off without him.

The problem isn't Moyes and it never was- the problem is that our club doesn't progress, more it regresses. We continually go backwards and forwards and don't actually seem to have a plan for the future. Hopefully, under this new system, we will see some consistency and evidence of an actual strategy. I don't blame Moyes. I blame the club mentality.

Martinez done a job, best prem season, 2 semi finals in 1 year ( very unlucky in both as well )

edit** people forget how much moyes was actually given btw, for all the good stuff he did there were some absolutely horrid times under him, and if say moshiri had been there at the time he wouldn't have lasted that full time that's for sure ( not saying I agree with that btw ) but he was deffo given more time than 99% of managers
We weren't unlucky against United. We were *****

If he had 40m I do t think he would have been buying 6m players like Beattie he would have been able to buy better players.

At least he has won something in his career.

He's a terrible manager mate and history proves it, martin o'neal won something but it doesn't make him a good manager does it? Bobby can't organise a defence and history shows the longer he stays at a club the goals against column increases every year. He won't divert from his philosophy even when his players do t suit it, he was asking players like Caldwell and bramble to play like bekenbaur, do you remember bramble making cock ups every week and costing them games, I do. He used to say that "individual mistakes cost us today" nearly every week at Wigan, and say "you can't account for that" well you can, stop asking CB that can't pass to pass the ball around. He's shocking and it's not really up for debate I don't think

6m was a big amount when he was signed.

We came 4th the season before on a system based to get the best out of Marcus Bent. It worked and then he replaced Bent with a totally different type of player yet played the same system. It was mad.
