Does ITV show WC games with a 2 second delay?

I've had the same problem with next door the odd time when streaming games or fights (so I prob shouldn't complain too much), it's very annoying indeed.
I remember when streaming games was relatively new, one of the boozers that had all the foreign channels used to put the local radio station for commentary, of course a local radio signal is quicker than a foreign satellite to arrive so everyone was listening ahead of what they were watching. The divvy landlord kept doing it for about two seasons of away games thinking he was some sort of innovator

Was really annoyed by this - anyone experienced similar?

I live near a pub. Was watching the Col-Eng pens. Emotion, pressure - it was great entertainment with a great result. One thing pissed me off. Before each penalty was taken - around 2-3 seconds - I would hear the reaction to what had already happened from the group in the pub before the pen was even taken on ITV. How were they getting the feed 3 seconds ahead of me? I was just watching on ITV.

Any ideas?
My local boozer is open plan, but split in two - lounge and bar, both have tellies.

The one in the bar is about 2 seconds ahead of the one in the lounge, which makes big games hilarious, as the lads in the bar can be shouting their heads off and the lads in the lounge have no idea what`s going on !

Down to the different processing speeds in different digital tvs. My new one us significantly faster than my old one.
I also have 2 pure digital radios, and there's even a difference in speed there with an audible echo effect between them.

Well it is relative. What may be minor to you - and you are convinced should also be minor to others - is not minor to me. Football is important to me and watching games live is a pleasure. I would comment on the thread linked, however - thinking about it - snarky memes - whilst they are minor in every way - they don't make one fume.. I really wanted to know why and how the pub next to me is two seconds ahead of ITV digital terrestrial. Hearing the result of each pen 2 seconds before it is taken kind of ruins the drama for me. Also it is not really a first world problem. I live most the year in Brazil and a similar thing was happening when I watched the WC last time round over there on Globo - and we were all very annoyed - more so than at the fact the windows in the house in question have no glass in them. ;)

OK mate ;)
Can't offer an intelligent explanation I'm afraid. As somebody else pointed out, it can even happen with 2 TV's in the same house. The TV in my living room is about a second behind the one in the conservatory.
Such is life.

Yes it seems Chrismpw nailed it. Different processor speeds. Would explain why there is also a slight echo between my own two TVs.

Go to Russia and watch the game live in the stadium while holding your TV on your lap to prove this definitively

It seems to me that there are two possible solutions here, both of which would be expensive.
Option 1 is to buy a new TV with a faster processor than the pub TV. Given that you live near a pub "full of kopites" I recommend the even more expensive option 2 - move house.

There's even a chance the pub was tuned into a non-HD signal which is a couple of seconds ahead as I assume there's less information to transmit/decode. If you flip between BBC1 and BBC1HD you'll often find the HD channel is showing what you've already seen on the standard channel.

Edit - Hang on, if there's more information or slower processing wouldn't the lag gradually increase over time? I don't know.

Edit Edit - It's caused by more information in the initial image. Changes to the image can be processed at the same speed but that initial packet is the cause of the delay....or something.

Had exactly the same mate, although it was more like 15 secs between my telly and the social club next door. Mass hysteria in the carpark sort of gave the game away.
Tbh it's a useful arrangement for some folk, dissipating the tension. Had 3 or 4 people tell me they literally couldnt take it, heart hammering shilling two Bob.

for the last group games, i was watching one game on the tv, and the other on my ipad. tv announced that there was a goal in the other game, ipad stream showed it about 30 seconds later. it does ruin it a bit

Not watching on BBC 1 HD - just normal BBC 1 and now I am ahead of the LFC pub! My yelling at the goal beat theirs!!!
