Does it not annoy anyone?

A lot of Liverpool's popularity has come from their actual name as well. Liverpool as a city is famous throughout the world, I remember watching a programme cringing how them lot would sing The Beatles songs on The Kop but that is what got them recognised and they carry the name of the city.

I applaud catterick for his shunning of the media, really don't care what people think about us. to look for gratification from the media is bad kopite behaviour. "look at us look at us we're quite good aswell, can we be mentioned in the same as breath as you please, oh pretty please?"

if it wasn't for us and villa etc these other teams wouldn't exist, we don't need to be talked about, it won't change what happens on the pitch. I learned to ignore the media long ago so when stuff like this comes out it doesn't bother me. if I need a dose of Everton on the tele I'll throw an Everton DVD on.

Bobby Martinez speaks the truth with graciousness and respect and for this the media will just ignore him because he doesn't play their game. then you have Rodgers, the man is a walking sound bite. look how they reacted to his Suarez statement the other day.

until you can learn to not be affected by the media then we'll keep getting repeats of this thread for years to come because nothing is ever gonna change.

You can say you really don't care but by the media shunning us we are missing out on appealing to a wider audience. I reading RedCafe the other day and came across a thread about the International Champions Cup, they were talking about the introductions to the teams in the competition. Real Madrid were described as the 31 time Spanish Champions, Chelsea current Europa League holders, Valencia the 6 time Spanish Champions and then Everton, the current team of USA goalkeeper Tim Howard. Most of these 'fans' haven't got a clue about how successful a team Everton are and have been, there are more tag-a-longs than real football loving people and they're the ones buying the merchandise. Everton have won 9 league titles, probably would have been a lot more had it not been for extenuating circumstances and we do not do enough to promote this.
I'm fed up of seeing us branded around as some mid-table team who are punching above their weight, we have the 8th highest turnover in the league we should be expecting to be finishing in the top 8 without Moyes' being described as some miracle worker for what he has done.

It's even worse here in Norway. Basically, the Premier League consists of the 6 teams that are mentioned in the first post over here. The @ss licking of especially Man Utd and Liverpool is absolutely disgusting at times. We are almost ignored unless "Chelsea target Fellaini scores again".

Normal headlines:

Everton 2-0 Man City: "Man City beaten"
Man Utd 3-3 Everton: "Man Utd throws away 2 points"
Everton 2-2 Liverpool: "Liverpool robbed"
Everton 2-1 Tottenham: "Tottenham loses 3 points in injury time"
Everton 1-0 Man Utd: "United with a bad start to the season"

Everything is "told" from the top 6 clubs point of views.

Everton are punching above there weight being we're they are now with the finances they've had available.

I don't want to rehearse this argument again.....it has been done to death, Chris.

But this "punching above our weight" argument is bogus.

We finished above fourteen clubs last season.

And every last one of those clubs except two (LFC and Villa) have played in the Championship in this century.

Ergo at some stage they have been trying to consolodate their position in the PL and have been playing catch up with us.

There is no good reason why we shouldn't be finishing above Stoke, Fulham, Norwich, Baggies, West Ham etc. on a regular basis.

That is not "punching above our weight".

We have been no better than we ought to be this past ten years or so.

i don't in general pay to much attention to the media regarding us,its usually all guff you know the stuff...punching above their weight...exceeding expectation in a false position ect,its red biased anyway thats the only reason an average team like them gets so much coverage.as for their place in the betting...well that just stupid kopites tossing their dosh away because they live in the past.

Just caught the end of "The Premiership years". Our first mention was a loss to West Brom at the start of April. Our next mention?

The 7-0 loss to Arsenal, no mention or clip of us clinching 4th place and being the first team to break the big 4 stranglehold after being 17th the season before.

Koff sky.

I'm past caring now. The only time I felt we were fairly recognised in the media is when we were up for Team of the Year in Sports Personality after 04/05. I thought that was boss. But still we were overlooked everywhere else for that achievement.

So many people on here deride Liverpool fans for being delusional, seeing their club as a serious team in the title race, when they don't like thinking of ourselves as a club that is punching above it's weight.

Doesn't that make some of us as delusional as them?

As much as they way we're portrayed in the media annoys me (and thats the clubs fault as much as the media's), surely they are more liklely to win the league than us?

With their attitude and finances they have more chance of bridging that gap than we do. Still a million miles away but i'd say unfortunatly they have more chance than us.

How? We finished 7th 2 seasons ago to their 8th, and 6th last season to their 7th. So clearly we have had the better chance of winning the league out of the two teams in the past 2 seasons. If it was a question of who was more likely in the next 10 seasons then I would expect them to be considered over us. Next season though? Obviously neither have a chance but out of the two, I would back the team who has finished higher for 2 seasons running and has the better team.

thing is mate i fully agree with you, but the amount of doe they spend on their team mean that most people will always think they are going to do better than us -- and to be fair mate, they probably should do better than us really shouldn't they? i'm not saying that they make great signings or anything, but its probably correct to say we punch above our weight and they fail to do as well as they should do

like it or not they have been underperforming the last 3 seasons, they went from 2nd to 6th and havent recovered since. of course alot of that is self inflicted like (in terms of signings, managers etc)

Here's an interesting article. I think it's a bit tongue in cheek, but it's quite amusing.

http://www.football365.com/f365-features/8862600/Media365

What do the papers, the TV, and fans of other clubs think about your team? In this series, John Nicholson and Alan Tyers look at the stereotypes, coverage and media agendas for each team in the Premier League. This week, it's the turn of once-mighty Everton...

Ex-player pundit presence
Peter Reid, the knee-squeezing king of the chummy pundits. The jewel in the BBC's crown of grey, Larry Gineker. You don't see as much of Massive Joe Royle these days, which is a shame. Those in Wales can enjoy Kevin Ratcliffe; Irish folk get Trevor Steven. Tony 'TC' Cottee is often on Sky with the fractious look of a man whose stool is over-firm. Graeme Sharp makes regular appearances to say, "basically, this side are rubbish compared to the one I played in." If Big Nev Southall can be coaxed onto TV with a hot, steamy pie or any other comestible, it is always a joyous day, for Nev comes over like an especially grumpy UKIP candidate who is only one sentence away from an un-PC friendly, "you can't say nowt these days" utterance.

Celebrity followers
Championship Manager geniuses Paul & Oliver Collyer. Dame Judi Dench. Sir Paul McCartney. The Cult's Ian Astbury. Jenifer Ellison and a dream girl of previous generations, Susan George (star of the notorious 'Straw Dogs'). In a 'Rocky IV' double-header, claims of Blue-ness have been made for both Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren. Kenny Everett and his TV nemesis, Mary Whitehouse were both Toffees, which explains why no-one was ever allowed to have sex on the pitch at Goodison Park.

Back page leaders?
Considerable interest in the club at the moment as the football world waits to see how they will get on without David Moyes, and whether the new Manchester United manager will pull off a raid for star players Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini. Club seems to enjoy broadly sympathetic coverage in the papers, possibly because, in the crazy world of billionaire Arabs and Far East marketing drives, it feels a comfortably old-fashioned institution. May also benefit from not being Liverpool, appearing reassuringly sane in comparison to the mental behaviour of their neighbours.

Gaffer's media skills
Apart from jilted Swansea fans a few years back, you almost never hear anyone say a bad word about Roberto Martinez, who gets an easy ride in press conferences and in print by dint of being one of football's nicest guys. Getting relegated with Wigan seemed to attach no blame to Martinez. His utterly crap win ratio of 28.8% and total inability to construct a defence over many seasons is seemingly no stain on his reputation, even though it should be. Even if it doesn't work out at Everton and he is actually revealed as the occasionally hapless sod you might think he was at Wigan, he won't be short of offer as a pundit. Nice gets you a long way in a cruel world.

Vox pop cliché fan
Really angry about the new badge. Confident that they can finish above Liverpool. Concerned about ambition. Think things were better in the old days. Confused as to whether Kenwright has been an asset or a problem. Given history of the club and importance in English football, the fact that no-one, not even Far Eastern human rights abusers, Arab dictators or Russian potentates on a last buying spree before being found dead in an expensive hotel, wants to buy Everton has knocked any arrogance out of them. Unwanted and skint, they wander the night forever, the good-looking tart-with-a-heart desperately short of punters.

Keyboard warrior ferocity
While they are obviously not Liverpool FC fans, we should not forget that we are still dealing with Scousers here so take one step back and cool your engines. While they lack the attack dog qualities of their neighbours, the collectivist heart beats strong on Merseyside, and perceived injustice will not be tolerated.

Club's brand
The People's Club. One of UK football's absolute blue chip institutions, have played more top flight games than any other team. Stuart Hall used to call it The School Of Science. We don't know why. It was probably some sort of coded expression.

Outsider's view
Well, there was the whole "Everton is all white" thing, back in the day. Everyone loves the fantastic old school ground made out of wood and tar paper. Real football played by real bastards in the Dogs of War era. A noble tradition of brutal big men, from Royle to Duncan Disorderly to Fellaini. Fans infinitely more tolerable than Liverpool's. Essentially a historical curiosity, never likely to win anything of note ever again, though perhaps more likely having dumped David Moyes on Manchester United in an attempt to curse them with the same potless 10 years he delivered for Everton. And, you know, at least they're not Liverpool.
