Does it not annoy anyone?

Passing my local bookies you see the usual suspects vying for the league at tiny odds, then Spurs and Arse at bigger odds. Then the ****e at 28/1.

THEN US AT 250/1.

Really? Really though?

Worth a tenner each way surely??

From what I remember, he always had a soft spot for Everton.

I'm pretty sure he's a Kopite, Dan.

He's a well-known Kopite, he has the 5 stars tattooed on his arm.

It's always been like this.

Even when we were boss in the 1980s, we were never given proper credit by the media.

Even the England manager Bobby Robson famously (or rather infamously) said that we were 'the team with no stars', a horribly patronising and backhanded compliment if ever there was one.

In the 1960s when we were great, we fell foul of Harry Catterick being a very old school, introverted manager who was deeply suspicious of journalists and the media and shut many of them out. At the same time, there was Shankly, the complete opposite, who the media loved, plus you also had the likes of Revie, a fledgling Clough and Nicholson at Spurs, all charismatic figures who captured imaginations and attentions. That's when the media 'attitudes about us' where first shaped.

Unless we get the Man City/Chelsea magic wand waved over us, which will almost certainly never happen, nothing will ever change. Like a typecast actor, we're never going to be viewed as a 'leading man' no matter how great our credentials are.

Best attitude to have is 'screw the lot of them, we'll show them'.

All to do with revenue.

Speak to an Everton fan and they will give an honest assessment of what we can achieve.

But Liverpool expect to still be considered challengers even though they are miles off. The media though will react on the takings from bookies. the bookmakers have a big sway over how the media portrays things. The fact that LFC are viewing Arsenal as inferior for the Rat is telling.

Arsenal have a state of the art stadium and 17 years of constant CL football. Their income dwarfs Liverpool but the fans will just go on about history.

But who is correct? We laugh at them for their staunch defence of the club yet they get respected for it somehow. We have still won far more than Chelsea or Man City yet get labelled plucky.

I'm aware he's a Liverpool fan, but nearly every pundit on telly is. Still seemed to have a decent word to say about Everton though.

Don't mind that Murray fella, personally. Hansen's a bit of a bell and Shearer's even worse but Lawrenson's the worst of the lot. Putrid [Poor language removed] him.

Agree,, but at the time we were the MILLIONIER club.

Lets face it lads, its the reason we have such a rich history, because at the time we could attract the top players..

We are skint now but it fills me full of pride to get one over that red shower of shoite with a sneaky blue bet every season..

*FCK EM*

Fully understand the media's view - what on earth has this club done since 1995 to attract any attention outside of the faithful?

7th place trophy???..... get a grip.

Liverpool is football's answer to the Church of Scientology, and so I can only assume that media outlets fear some sort of backlash if they don't pretend they're still up there with the country's best clubs. The cover of this months Four Four Two has the managers of the 'Big Six' in some stupid Reservoir Dogs mock up, and of course features Rodgers instead of Martinez.

As for the bookies, they're just reeling in gullible dopes that have been hoodwinked by King Brenny's tall tales.

People, rep this person with green.

It sure annoys me.

And we can thank the triumvirate of Kenwright, Moyes and Neville for dampening expections and talking us down to the point where a club referred to as a "sleeping giant" around the turn of the century is now regarded as "punching above its weight" when it finishes a remote 6th in the table.

The thing is we are punching above our weight in terms of finances available. Based on that alone we shouldn't have the quality players and the strong league performances we'v had the last 5+ yrs.

What bothers me is because of that, the now quality (albeit small) squad we have is ignored and dismissed as challangers to the top places. The squad we have now is not punching above its weight finishing 6th, as its full of quality internationals.

My description would be....

Everton are punching above there weight being we're they are now with the finances they've had available. However being there, they have a team very capable of challanging that top 4 and would be under-performing with this squad to finish below 7th.

Does my head in, all this, but a lot of the damage comes from Everton's relative obscurity.
If you go to effing China and ask people about Everton, people go "whut" and shrug. Ask them about the shoite, and they'll recognize the brand. Sadly, Everton haven't done much to be recognized by the idiots and children of the world as a thing they should care about. Blame it on the era of the premier league if you must, but judging in global shirt sales these are the most sold:
1. Man U 2. Barca 3. Real 4. Chelsea 5. Gerrard's Penis FC

So that says something.
