Does fit-again Leighton Baines deserve to start for Everton at Swansea?

This is a real difficult one for roberto. If he sticks with Oviedo the press will have a field day saying baines will force a move to protect his England place in World Cup year etc. etc. with the transfer window just around the corner.

To be brutally honest the press don't care enough about Everton to have a field day with a story like that. And it's a non-story anyway, he's only just come back from injury, and he's not a goalscoring striker or a first-choice goalie...he's a leftback.

It's really not that big of a deal if Bryan starts again and Baines is benched.

It would be like Barca leaving Messi on the bench because Alexis Sanchez had a few good games while he was out.

It really wouldn't.

I'm of the belief that you don't change a wining formula. Oviedo hasn't put a foot wrong and has certainly matched Baines' performances this season.

I'm going to stick with Kendall who thinks you play your best team at every opportunity.

Baines is a much better player than Oviedo, end of.

45 times........not 50 or 51 or 51.25. Mate I can´t swear on here but do me a favour ........Why hasn´t he shown it then ?It´s great being 45 times better then some one but is he 45 times more committed? Oviedo has not put a foot wrong scored the winning goal aganst United, assist against Arsenal .Drop him just like that. Baines isn´t fit anyway but if he was I would still bench him.

Are you angry mate?

Baines is a model pro. If he plays, he will play as well as he possibly can. If he hits anything resembling form for us, he will be a major asset. More so than Oviedo could be even when going at full tilt. He has been out of form, like. It was about time, tbf and he will hit form again. Soon.

If you want to question his commitment on the pitch based purely on what went on in the summer, then go for it, but it's pure speculation and not worth anyone's time.

We will need Baines' quality in the second half of this season. At times our delivery has been lacking recently. We haven't hit Lukaku nearly enough. We could really do with Baines whipping his crosses in, as Oviedo's crossing has been generally average and sometimes woeful. Also, Baines is still a top defender and that part of his game certainly wasn't lacking before the injury.

Oviedo has been ace, but there's no way I'd leave an player like Baines on the bench. If he comes back in, plays sh*t and all of a sudden we're missing Oviedo, then we should by all means drop him. But he deserves a chance to claim his spot back, for me. Oviedo's been good, but he's no Leighton Baines.

This all day long. It's his place and he's earned the right to have it back after recovering from an injury.

Oviedo's bird though lads, have you seen her ??? she's a hot tamale

Bainsey's probably got a nice dolly bird too like but we just don't know do we

Oviedo for me please

Baines has been far from his best this season. Oviedo's performances have been of a higher standard. Baines may be the better player, but form wise, Oviedo wins. For that reason, you can't drop him.

But Howard wouldn't have played a player whose commitment was in question over a lad who had actually helped improve the team when he got his chance, Mr. B.

And you know it.

You are arguing for arguing's sake.......again :D

Oviedo's still developing, Brennan. It's (mostly) true that form is temporary and class is permanent, but I've got no problem with Oviedo staying in the team. Baines has, after all, been merely good instead of his usual outstanding this season.

This is a great point.

Until I someone uploads a pic of Bainsey's bird, we have no basis for comparison and must therefore pick Oviedo by default.

Breaking News:

Leighton Baines hasn't signed a new contract and most pundits believe he is leaving in January.

Ergo we probably won't have him in "the second half of the season".

Ergo only an idiot would drop a player whom has performed brilliantly in his absence.

And El Bob is no idiot.
