Do you feel old?

The pool the pool the pool. Is what I was told, and that it was difficult to get injured swimming and that it works all the muscle groups etc. But shoulder wear and tennis elbow can and did turn up with a vengeance. Ripped my adductor months and months ago, and still kyboshed now. Similar to your story, I was getting up off the floor foolishly unaided and put my weight through my left leg and I heard a sickening ripping sound, then the ocean of agony turned up a split second after. Someone mentioned recovery earlier, and also getting through hangovers. It's this aspect of youth no one warns about, the invincibility of youth is based on shrugging off a hangover or an injury and simply recovering. Those magic powers dry up and are replaced by suffering. It sucks being in pain, and is compounded by there being no prospect of healing and getting back what was lost. Time, what a twit*.
Don't get me on swimming pools . I spent 9 months in one walking on my toes to try and rehab.
Now I don't push it or risk further injury.
If I feel Achilles soreness in the gym I just stop.
Once I even conceded a table tennis match ( to be fair I was losing against a very very good player and unlikely to win ) when I felt soreness in the Achilles.

Nowt wrong with going for beers in the afternoon mate , the majority of our lives for a variety of reasons couldnt do it.
Dont even mind a few in the house either.
Same with holidays we take as many as we want nowadays , mainly becuse we can.
Dont mind M&S or even Next tbh I want more comfortable and casual nowadays.
Boutique & Sports shops are well in the past now
Don't disagree mate. But that's because we're old!

When is was younger I'd have about 10% of my beers in the house. Now it's more like 90%.

Apart from my hands letting me down occasionally, due to chopping my own fingers off everything else is all in good order and working well.
Still up and out for work every day, still climbing about like a teenager and don't shy away from a bit of hard graft. Also keeping the brain active as I don't wanna end up a bit simple like Kurt.
Ftfy x

Personally I would say age is more mental than physical, it probably depends on what you have around you in life.

Physicality will be a massive hinder, but if you still carry a positive outlook on life than you will generally feel younger.

Actually I dont know what I'm talking about, because the restriction on your body can play a massive part on your mental side.

Silly post response 🤷‍♂️
I think you pulled it back just in time there mate 🙂.

A phrase I hate is “ Age is just a number” which is often used in relation to sporting achievements by older people, usually by younger people who don’t have a clue . Age comes with all kinds of growing, incremental difficulties, physical , mental etc, you have to accept this, plan things accordingly , make adjustments maybe do more of something to benefit . You can’t just sit there and think your way out of it with positives thoughts. Sure that positive mindset is necessary and helpful but basically achieving things as you get older means you have to get off your arse and do something about it.!

Used to be quite fit up until pre Covid, then I changed job, got myself a stressful middle management job which I did sat behind a desk for 2 years. Left me with very little motivation to do anything.
Left that job 2 weeks ago and have gone back to my old job as an outdoors activity worker so looking forward to paddling, paddle boarding, biking etc when the weather improves.

48 now, but don’t feel very different than say when I arrived in Barcelona at 33. Still like a good night out and still play football twice a week. Won a 5s tournament on Saturday and went on the lash for the night.

I do regret not being more sensible with money. Have finally got on the property ladder in the last month and moved in this week. Feels very late for signing up to such a large debt for so long, but definitely happy paying a mortgage today rather than rent. Have to give all credit to my wife for the kick up the arse I needed.

I agree that the right mentality is important. I’m a glass half full person for sure and I don’t often think on or dwell too much on aging. Lucky enough to have stayed healthy so far. (Apart from a fractured big toe just now! 🙃)

Probably the main way I've measured it is that doing the same work in the garden takes longer with each passing year. Other than that, I'm probably in the same poor and patched-up condition I've been in for decades.

I don't mind getting older, though, and I'm fine with there being more miles on the road behind me than ahead of me. It's given me a sense of perspective that the twentysomething version of me sorely lacked.

Exactly why my post ended up like a circle, after being so active in life, even carrying big hurdles, to than get hit by more hurdles that you hit a stumbling block, it than inturn plays massively on your mental state, your mental state is than a big hurdle in your life.

To me, I haven't found the answer.

Sunshine makes me feel more younger as it puts a smile on my face.

Winter, the opposite.

Not being able to do what I loved in life, active wise. Is a knockout.

I also bottle everything up, which isnt healthy, but I always have.

So no, I cant answer it Mate.

Just hope you lot are all well and good.
