Do we need a new striker?

It's not really making excuses for him, mate. He really isn't experienced enough to play week in week out. He's been used sparingly for the last 2/3 years.

You could say Agbonlahor does it but he's been a regular for three years. In terms of experience he's miles ahead of Vic and Vaughan.

I hope he does step up but it's not going to be easy, especially as he'll be playing upfront on his own which is very hard.

Agreed, Vic gets the odd appearance as substitute, so it will be really very difficult for him to adjust to being our main striker. In saying that, he strikes me as an eager young man and I've got a feeling that he'll relish being thrown in at the deep end. I just pray that he gets a couple of lucky breaks to begin with. If not, and Everton revert to the Everton we've seen recently, there could be a problem for him, as like you imply, he's not got the experience to take the rough with the smooth. But Vic comes across as a decent bloke and I wish him all the best on this. This is his chance to shine.

i dont think we have the money to buy a new striker. though i would be very pleased for wagner love to become a blue .

i think yak and saha as a front 2 with anichebe and vaughan as back up , then reserve - jutkiewicz , baxter and agard , is good enough.

if lady luck means we are having to play our back up and reserves then so be it. thats what there here for.(otherwise why have them ?)

its situations like this which gives future stars a chance to shine and/or learn.

i think we would have continued to play 451 , leaving yak upfront on his own.
to be fair i dont think he would have had many chances anyway , so i dont see how having young vic there instead would make much of a difference , as a lot of the goals and play are coming from behind the striker anyway.

if we do bring a striker in i expect a short term loan.
vassell sturridge or benjani of man city perhaps ? (there top heavy and will buy even more players in january) i just have a sneaky feeling.

Saha will be back soon enough I reckon, and hopefully so as he was looking sharp today.

With him, Anichebe, Cahill available there wont be the need to spunk a load of pesos on another striker. We'll get a loan at best.

What about Henrik Larsson? He's still being linked here and there, if there would be a chance to get him on loan for the rest of the season, I would definitely go for it. Quality player, still with decent engine, also would really helped in development of Anichebe and Vaughan.

Podolski would be perfect - can play as striker, but he would also do a good job as left midfielder, if we would have Yak and/or Saha healthy. But even if we bid, I'm pretty sure it won't be enough and some other team(s) offer(s) more...
Agreed, if we're going to sign a striker on a long term deal, I believe Podolski would be the perfect one. Victor Obinna will also be firmly back in Moyes' mind I reckon. Can also play both as a striker and as a winger.

I am not really sure about Obinna's ability to play as winger, probably only in 4-3-3- system IMHO.
And I'm pretty sure nobody's gonna get Podolski on loan...
You want him? You need to spend. Big.

Definately agree on the Podolski situation. That's why I said long term contract. There's no way Bayern will let him go out on loan. Don't think they'll let him go in January anyway.

Don't know that much about Obinna tbh. It was said on here, that he could also play as a winger, haven't seen enough of him to give a fair judgement.

would be epic timing if we could grab Landon Donovan in the transfer window

there's rumours he will be Podolski's replacement in Bayern, but he could play right away over here if he so wanted

Didn't see enough of Obinna too, but for me he's similar to John Utaka - pacy, decent finisher and probably can work on wing in 3-man attacking formation. But his crossing and general striking instincts (including weaknesses, like coming into opposite's defensive line too quickly) make me not really seeing him playing well on wing in 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 formation.
