It's not just that points tally though is it? We are obviously a shambles in defence and we are short elsewhere. That wont be rectified quickly. To get anywhere near what we did last season would take a Herculean effort and a massive turnaround in fortune...and all our best players on the pitch from this point on rather than filling up the treatment room for the next few months.

Dont compare last season to this, they're chalk and cheese...and you know it.

lol

3 points behind having played more difficult games, and with players suffering from the well known World Cup curse.

You're as adamant about this as you were about United finishing in the top 4 last year.

It's not 'throwing', it's a means to a greater end. It's next season we should be building for now.

If there's anything that history has shown us with Everton in recent years it's that if you dont get out of the gate early and amass a lot of points in the first couple of months you're just playing catch up for the rest of the season in order, ultimately, to secure a high league placing that may or may not get you into a European competition that'll knacker the team the following season.

I say plan now for a major assault on top four next season. Defo give it all we have this season, but with the objective of reaching the end of it with the prize of having established two new young first team players to go along with Stones and Browning. That seems to me a more worthy goal than getting a pat on the head for being 'plucky Everton...the fast finishing best of the rest team'. We still have the cups too.

Now, ok, I will play your game David.

Which players should we be looking to move into the first team?

And doing well in the Europa.

Got a light Dave?

Apparently the Monthly Ladies Lunch or something which the club do where a woman fan can have a meal with a player, and Distin was supposed to be this month, has been cancelled.

Doesn't that pour petrol on the fire then?

Oh Dave, you're talking absolute pap lad.

At this point last season we were only 3 points better off ffs, and we'd not had anything like the fixtures that we've had this time round.

Talk of building for next season after only 7 games of this one is utter drivel
Agree on the the sentiment but not on the math - after 7 games last season we had 12 points, W3 D3 L1, but this year we are on 6 - W1 D3 L3.

Much harder games though plus Europa. Even the supposedly easy games we've had so far were ones we made a mess of last year - only a total of 3 points from our four games with Crystal Palace and West Brom which we have already matched.

Well, they're in the squad all those I named so far. That should mean they're good enough to get at least a few games shouldn't it? Or is there an acceptance that we dont have a squad?

We have an excellent squad David and 1 thats been used a lot recently, theres very few players that cant say they havent been given every chance to cement a first team place.

That's not what people at Finch Farm have been saying.

Nah. Everyone knows how Martinez works - he said it himself in the 2 different fans group interviews he did last season.

It's a massive leap from U-21 football to the Prem, and youngsters are to go out on loan first before being considered.

Stones was already in the first team squad when Martinez came.
Browning went out on loan.

I would put money on Galloway going out on loan at some point this season.
