Discussion & help on depression & mental health related issues

well ive had 4 weeks almost on this fluexitene (Prozac) … they aren't really performing like the citalopram did. im not feeling like I was on those. ive had a couple of days where I just haven't wanted to get up and do anything, but struggled through it.

im constantly feeling really really tired. I felt I could of slpet allday today, but got myself up and have done a few things.

got a dr appointment Monday, im probly going to ask to go back to citalopram, even though they give me horrendous nightmares.

Hope you get things sorted, changing meds is never easy,

Update. Just came in this morning feeling fine and pretty much totally better but I had a back to work meeting and was basically told they don't think I'm in the right frame of mind to work and to go home until Monday.
That's that gone then FFS. Badly want this to be a dream.

I`d say the opposite mate.

The way I`m looking at is that your employer is acting with your best interests at heart and it`s 100% the correct thing to do in the circumstances.

It shows to me that they are taking their responsibilities for the health and welfare of their employees seriously.

Look at another way.

If someone turned up with a raging cold, pasty faced and was very obviously unwell, would they send them home ?

It`s no different at all mate.

I know it`s easy for me to say, but the last thing you need to do is start worrying yourself to death and making yourself ill again, thinking you`ve lost your job.

You haven`t, it was a blip, nothing more, nothing less.

Ps - when I worked in an office and things got to much for me, I used to use my lunch break to go for a walk and clear my head ;)

Thanks for the kind words mate, we'll have to wait and see I suppose. My gut tells me it's over there though and that's all we have really when you haven't a clue what's really going on. I like them as people very much and will be devastated if they decide to cut bait because I've really tried hard and until now all the feedback I'd had was very positive, how they feel like I've been there forever I'm such a good fit. They're business first though and won't want any unreliable basketcases which is what I think they now think of me. I've been there only 6 weeks and still in the official trial period, binning me now is very easy and must feel extremely tempting for them.

Think even the RS losing the final now wouldn't make me feel any better haha. So so pig sick.

Don't underestimate the healing power of their failure mate.

I think it's more likely what @COYBL25 says on the job front, they're probably conscious of rushing you straight back after less than 24 hours since you had what sounds like a justifiable mini meltdown. I'd attempt to have a chat with your mum, I find the tension of saying nothing causes just as much an issue as having a blow out and getting it all off my chest, at least doing that means she knows where she stands and has a chance to have a sensible conversation.

Good luck either way mate

@anjelikaferrett knows the ins and outs of what they can and can`t do mate.

Looking from the outside, I`d say that your employees have acted with a proper duty of care towards you.

The easy option would`ve been to take your word at face value and throw you straight back into the work place, especially with work being so busy.

You haven`t done anything wrong, it`s not like you`ve been constantly late, off sick all the time etc. You`ve had a wobble and I can 100% guarantee that they`ll be at least one other person in your work place who`s had / suffers similar - who they may / may not know about it.

I`m sure on Monday, you`ll be posting that everything is fine and back to normal.

Ps - clear the air with your mum, having all that bottled up won`t be helping either.

Whilst work might have your best interest at heart in asking you stay off until Monday, but if you think you’re fit for work (and in fact would be likely to become more anxious if staying off work for this period) then I’d advise you explain this to work and get back in. I don’t know if they’ve asked you to self-certify sick? Would be a shame to take sick days if you don’t feel unfit for work now.

They may ask for evidence that you’ve seen your GP and that they agree you’re fit for work. You shouldn’t really need to provide such evidence. But it’s worthwhile conveying clearly to them that you have good insight into your anxiety and have good coping mechanisms; that you can deal effectively with these rare minor blips and that you would know if you need GP assistance and would seek such in a timely manner whenever necessary. If you also explain that work is not a trigger in terms of the content that would also reassure them. The workload on that day did pile up - best to lay this open and agree on an arrangement where you can go to someone to say you need assistance with the workload should it pile up again.

Sounds like you have a good employer there and they genuinely have your best interest at heart. I’m sure they’d be willing to work with you to understand how best to support you, and will appreciate that keeping people away from work might seem the kindest thing to do but can be counter-productive sometimes.

Best of luck.

@EFCPaul The bottom line, worst case scenario is that as you have only worked there for six weeks you don't have any protection as regards employment rights. Are you still working through a probation period? Has everything been good so far. What you you do have is protection under the Equality Act. They would be very hard pushed to justify getting rid of somebody just because of a mental health condition.

I would stay off until Monday. I do actually think they have your best interests at heart and now they know about your anxiety they should be able to put measures in place to help you. i'd ask them how they will be recording the time since they sent you home- it's worth asking for them to pay you for the days but not count it as sick or your own leave. As @The Missing Lineker said it might be worth seeing your GP just to keep him/her up to date with what has happened and also to show your workplace that you are seeking help and you can manage your health. It usually helps to be pro-active.

Talk to your Mum - she's probably worried about you, and sometimes that worrying manifests itself as shouting at you! (been there done that!)

Ring them tomorrow and thank them, tell them your story and you feel that its good to be in a work place with people that notices when things are not quite right. Then go and have a good weekend, champions league final to watch, hopefully it will be a good game and we'll get the result we want!!!

Not sure if this is the best place, but gazza is not looking well... :(

As a former blue, is there anything the club is doing to support him?

The likes of Lineker and a whole host off other ex players chipped in to send him to a specialist rehab clinic a few years ago mate - I think it was the second time.

He didn’t last long before he fell off the wagon again and they refused to provide any further help until he was able to prove that he was capable of drying out.

He never has.

I’m surprised he’s lasted as long as he has tbh
