I've followed top flight footie for over 40 years. I've spent countless hours ankle deep in mud coaching and reffing school matches fostering respect and sportsmanship.

Yet here I am with eyes and a keen understanding of what motivates a lot of wealthy people (yet more cash) - I haven't fallen out of love of football - I just don't recognise top flight football as football anymore. Same as i don't rate WWF as wrestling, or F1 as motor racing. I just have no faith that its honest competition.

Whilst there's no doubt that money has ruined the game as we know it. I have RS mates that I used to laugh at for suggesting the game and Sir Alex, was corrupt. Just thought it made them look silly. Fast forward a few years and some of our fans are saying the same, just as the team over the park seem to be getting it together and we're so so bad. It's embarrassing

If it helps any I've been saying it a few years too, even when the rs were crud and we were doing better so its nowt to do with that. It's the pedalling and promotion of the Sky favourites of the moment.

I think you're being a bit over defensive about the specific success the rs are being handed here. Especially given that I just stated that it was nothing, necessarily, to do with them. Are you on the correct forum?

We are talking about a multi billion pound global industry that has been shown to be corrupt in terms of FIFA, UEFA. Sky have an interest in flogging matches to millions about the globe - and apart from the odd outlier like Spurs or Leicester, it's a damn site easier for them to sell their usual darlings than it is the likes of Norwich or other trifling teams.

Money is THE prime motivator in football now, more than winning a cup or a league. It is no longer a sport. Everybody has a price - whether it's the drug testing individuals or the entire body - and if you think these prices are out of the scope of an industry that can pay hundreds of players many tens of thousands of pounds a week then it seems it is you that needs to get a grip on reality.
