Did Rooney's driving ban end yet?

Because it'll be a novelty him being the only one who can drive. He'll have to get one of them people carriers and get asking for petrol money.

Classic County.
Fun fact, legally you're not allowed to make a profit otherwise your insurance is invalidated unless you hold a taxi license

Derby County Football Club has completed the disciplinary hearing regarding Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett in respect of their involvement in the events of last Tuesday evening, which resulted in both of them being arrested and scheduled to appear in court on 15th October.

Irrespective of the outcome of that process, the club will not tolerate any of its players or staff behaving in a manner which puts themselves, their colleagues, and members of the general public at risk of injury or worse, or which brings the club into disrepute.

Both Lawrence and Bennett are therefore being fined the equivalent of six weeks’ wages – the maximum contractual limit - and will serve an additional 80 hours of community and rehabilitation, which will include a drink aware course.

The club will be making no further comment regards this matter.

Mason Bennett Statement

“On the night of Tuesday 24th September, I made huge mistakes after consuming alcohol.

“What I did was wrong.

“Being a footballer and someone who young fans look up to I know the example I set is key. I am ashamed.

“At 23 I am old enough, and I was brought up, to know better.

“I understand that such actions have serious consequences. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept the punishment that the club has issued.

“I have to and will learn from these events and will strive to be a better person.

“There’s no excuse for what I’ve done. I’m sorry to my family, my friends, the club, all Derby supporters and to the wider football community, I let you all down.”

I wonder who writes this stuff for them .

I wonder who writes this stuff for them .

The club media and pr team do it. My mate is a player and they just come to him sometimes with a pre written interview with answers the fans will love and ask if they are ok to put that out.

Typical pointless consequences.

What more can the club do? They’ve fined them the maximum allowed under their contracts. They’ve also still got to go to court.

Sack them????? What do you mean what more can they do haha. Fining excessively rich people is the reason people don’t learn their lessons.

If it doesn't come from the player - and I know you're right everything is scripted these days - then they're utterly worthless empty words which should not exist.

How is it anything other than adding dishonest words to a bad act?

They enabled him. I'm sorry but if you knowingly get into a car with a drunk driver then your just as responsible in my opinion.
Any reasonable person would be telling them to call a cab and refusing to let them drive, especially when it takes them seconds to 'earn' whatever the cost of the journey likely would have been

I agree with you but in the eyes of the law they’ve done nothing wrong whatsoever and won’t be charged. I personally think they should be charged with dual enterprise or at least aiding and abetting,

I don't get it.
I'd say they are on minimum of £200k per annum are Ubers/mini-cabs so bloody expensive that getting behind the wheel is ever an option when you are blind drunk.

I’d imagine they’ll be on considerably more than that minimum.

They are nearly on that per month never mind per annum

This quote from 2018:

"Championship football players are getting paid on average around £25,000 per week. The top, highest-paid, players in the championship can earn close to £80,000 per week. The average salary in League One is around £2,100 per week. The average League Two is around £1,400 per week."

Even on a 45% tax rate and agent fees, etc. that's incredible money. It's a short career though, and these planks have effectively shortened theirs by these antics. Would you take a punt on them if you were a football club knowing the injuries sustained, ages and well documented off field behaviour? I'd tell them to sling their hooks.

Absolute planks.

My mate has a mate who was working in the pub they were in. His mother is also the first responder who was at the scene. Here's what he sent me after it happened.
