Talking about families:
Lord Grantchester declined to put himself forward for reelection at the 2000 AGM, citing business reasons. However, there are rumours that he left because Bill Kenwright rejected his numerous offers of financial help during or after the takeover by True Blue Holdings. And the rumours have continued since, fueled by the belief of many Everton fans that Lord Grantchester would happily underwrite a massive venture into the transfer market in support of David Moyes, if only Bill Kenwright would swallow his pride and allow the Moores Millions to once again revive a flagging Everton...
he Everton team returned to the UK today to find that, after much posturing in their absense, the club is no nearer a resolution to it's boardroom struggles.
And the problems were further highlighted with a formal statement from Lord Grantchester, claiming NOT to be Paul Gregg's financial backer. It read :
"I'm a lifelong Evertonian and I share in all Evertonians' disappointment and frustration at seeing our great club failing to compete at the highest level.
"I understand the desire for change and with this in mind I have had preliminary discussions to see how the present difficulties could be put in the context of a long-term solution for stability.
"It is not the case that I am behind Mr Gregg's proposals to underwrite funds for the club and indeed I have not seen Mr Gregg's proposals for the board.
"Any solution needs to underpin the future of the club. A short-term measure, while providing temporary respite, must not be burdensome to the future.
"The present circumstances can't be helpful to David Moyes as he prepares a team for the start of the season.
"I look forward to the board's proposal to make progress with a clear vision for the development of Everton Football Club and my family will continue to have the best interests of Everton at heart."
So, Mr Gregg, did lying to Everton fans help Mr Johnson in any way when he was at the club?
The bit in bold strikes me the most. Why aren't we getting any financial help?
