That's what makes him so frustrating. You see how good he can be in flashes, but never been able to put it together on a consistent basis.
What I will say though is he clearly likes it against the big teams. Maybe the extra space allows him to flourish but that's City, Liverpool and Arsenal he's scored against now.

My feeling is if you put him in good positions more frequently he'll do good things more frequently. It might not be a higher percentage of the time.

Townsend is just like McNeil so stop dreaming.
I tend to agree with this. He gets a lot of criticism from large swathes of our fan base, but for £1.5m I think he's been a tremendous buy.
He's got pace, technical feel and can finish. The issue is this consistency, although you can say that about many others. With more talent around him, he'd prosper.
Our only attacking option
A fit Dom, Gray and a good wide option on the other side would be enough to test most teams in the league. Gordon and McNeil could be the rotation.
He seems to only scores goals nobody else in our team can, it’s very frustrating his lack of consistency but I love those moments of magic!
