Deloitte figures on football revenue

...and season ticket cost is still relatively low compared to their Premiership teams.

Says that here in the article

Jones praised Everton and West Ham for their ticket pricing policies, but this further highlights the disparity between our tiny commercial revenue in comparison to not only the likes of ManU, City, Arsenal and Chelsea but now Leicester, West Ham and Southampton and that undoubtedly will be critical to the future.

That's five years away Steve. We could be a billion pounds a year behind City etc. by then

So...what other plan do you suggest...apart from the usual sack this person, sack that person. In fact all ideas welcome,on a postcard please to Everton Football Club.

And @MickA

No guys, player sales are not included in those numbers

Southamptons' revenue for 16/17 was aided by being in the Europa League.

Untied winning the EL was what put them ahead of Real Madrid.

Yeah, didn't think so. They didn't even get into Europe did they. Thought they failed in a qualifier which I doubt would have brought in that much.

They got to the group stages. They were in a group with Sparta Prague, Hapoel Be'er Sheva and Inter Milan.

These money league's are pretty pointless for all the English sides outside of the 'Big 6' + West Ham at the moment. West Ham will most likely continue to be in this list now for the foreseeable future as they have 52,000 season ticket holders and announce their attendances as 56K which means that they are at least selling around that number each match day, even if not all of the 56K are turning up. The rest of the PL can't compete, other than Newcastle who have cheap tickets.

Leicester won't be in there without Europe and Southampton will end up slightly below us in next seasons figures I would imagine as they don't have Europe. The worrying thing is that without a bigger Stadium, we are also rans for things like this and are only this high due to the TV money. There isn't much between clubs like us and Southampton and that can't be right given the gulf in the size of both clubs.

Have read the PDF in more detail now...Some points to consider:
  • Leicester and Southampton are in the top 20 due to European Competition.
  • Southampton's matchday revenue was £22.4m compared with our £14.5m. They played 8 Cup fixtures at St Mary's whereas we only played 3. We also reduced our ticket prices and I believe theirs are more expensive.
  • West Ham are in the top 20 due to the new Stadium and will likely continue to be in it due to having such large attendances.
  • Spurs will probably make it in to the top 10 for next season due to playing games at Wembley and making it through the CL groups. However, they reckon that it may depend on the outcome of their game with Juventus who are above them on the list as CL money plays a big part.
  • Player sales are not counted in the figures.
  • West Ham were the highest for commercial figures out of them, ourselves, Leicester and Southampton. West Ham £35.4m, Everton £26.2m, Leicester £25.7m, Southampton £16.9m. Will be interesting to see if the sponsorship deals can take us nearer or above West Ham next time.
So in terms of the relevance of all this to Everton, it's clear that competing in Europe, improving the appeal of the club and securing greater commercial deals will dictate where we will end up on this list. We need to be improving on our commercial performance as well as qualifying for Europe each season which is obviously going to be beyond us this season. Clearly, the TV revenue is a massive reason for the English dominance in this though.
