Current Affairs Defund the BBC

So it's not the BBC you are complaining about, it's having to pay for a government licence to own a TV set?
The fact the Government used that money to fund the BBC (and later put them in charge of collection) is irrelevent.

Do you also feel that you should not need a government licence to own a car? or go fishing?

No, I agree that people should pay for a car licence because that money goes to the upkeep and the building of roads (although they have started using part of it for other things) and yes, my beef is with the government making people pay (however much it now is,) to watch tv.
I Would guess that there is very few countries that charge a tax to watch TV.

If they wanted to they would still watch their news on the BBC but like every other channel, the BBC should be made to have adverts to pay their way.
It's a disgusting tax trying to be forced onto every British household and every year that goes by, thousands more are realising this fact and are refusing to pay a penny.
Why did you quote me in something I never said?

They do in France. 138€ à year for "image receiving equipment in the house".

Just interested to know where "Defunders" would get their news from in future.
The S*n? Daily Mail? Fox New UK (if it gets going)? Breitbart London? Straight from Rupert Murdoch's buttcheeks? whatever expert analysis their mates post on Facebook?
Independent journalists personally

Thank you but I doubt there is many others?
I didn't know that they did in France charge about 30% less then maybe some people here would be happier to pay the charge but to charge people £157 just because a TVs can receive the BBC is disgusting and outdated.
I suggest that if they/the people want to keep the BBC advert free, they should take the BBC off free to air and make it a subscription only service and if it's as worthy as many people suggest, it would be interesting to see how many households would take up the offer of paying £157 a year?

You don't pay the government to own a TV set, you have to pay the government to watch live TV just because the TV receives the BBC.

So you don't think the government have access to your Internet history?

Interesting.
I know 100% they they have access.
It's you that seems to think that they won't now use this information to enforce the law now the ignorant gammon have potentially stripped us of all Data Protection protection.

It’s all going to murdoch. Might as well Chuck the sun in.
Defunding the bbc is the new brexit. It will be gone in a few years...
People think they hate it but only because they have been told they hate it by murdoch and tories. All with a vested interest against it. Bbc is fine institution and for £150 it’s good value.
And that is your opinion and you are more than entitled to it. However, another common opinion is that the
BBC is out of control and acting way beyond its original purpose and remit: to inform, educate & entertain.
It's remit and primary objective should be to report the news and not create the news agenda that it wants to
support and perpetuate - which is what it does nowadays and this is the main reason for its criticisms. Me and my
mates are just normal, working class blokes (middle to old age I agree) where previously the BBC was the go to
channel for the news. Now all of us try and avoid it wherever possible. I was an avid radio 4 listener in the morning
and evenings for years for the news & current affairs. It just got to the stage where I could just not listen to it
any longer. Jeremy Vine on radio two - are we licence payers really paying for this stuff I ask myself?
If the BBC was subscription / advertising based then it could say & do what it liked. However, it isn't. It is
publicly funded 100%. Whilst this is the case it should be completely & totaly impartial and report the news
and current affairs as such. As a previous poster stated: If you choose not to fund the BBC it a criminal offence
and you have a very serious risk of going to jail. In this day and age that is truly obscene. The BBC in their current
state are actually encouraging and allowing Murdoch to park his tanks on their lawn. The amazing thing is that
they can't see this as they are so wrapped up in their own self import bubble. The BBC will be and is the master
of it's own decline and for me and a lot of others, the sooner the better.

Out of interest, who do you goto for your news?

From a TV view point it's now ITV.
The only newspaper I purchase on any form of regular basis
is The Sunday Times. However, I do go online and occasionally surf around.
As for radio - I have effectively binned it off and listen to podcasts.
I don't touch any form of social media and never have.
