You’re not setting a very high bar really are you?Thelwell must stay unless there’s a clear upgrade.

I took heart from the Telegraph report that under the headline had Weir down as only one of a few being considered for the role.Absolutely not; the sort of lazy decision that almost ruined this club.

If it's true, it'll be because Moyes wants to control all transfers, so someone who wont challenge him like Weir will be a patsy for that purpose.
Remember he wanted Weir or Stubbs or Neville to take over at Everton when he left for United so he could come back here and take unproblematically any player he wanted from us.
Thelwell is doing a decent enough job under the circumstances. There's no gain to hiring an unproven DoF like Weir.
That would be a good thing to have a dof who answers to Moyes. The transfers we made under Moyes were better than the transfers we made with any DOF after him
Excellent points and I fully agree. I would like Thelwell to stay on.
It was reported that Moyes didn't get on with the West Ham Director of Football (banned him from the training ground) and you can imagine they disagreed on players leaving Moyes with an unbalanced squad.
Yes, what you assert above makes sense.
Star lizard is just a general sports analytics company that covers a number of areas but within that is a separate company called Jamestown Analytics which is focused on football and cricket player data and also coaches. Its this which is the so called golden goose in terms of the recruitment. I don't even think Brighton have a head of recruitment anymore and they got rid of a fair amount of their scouts and are going down the AI route these days.Would be interesting to know exactly who does what there. They get their data from star lizard, but there must be more to it than that otherwise you’d think there’s no point to them having scouts, head of recruitment, DOF etc (although DOF does more than just transfers obviously)

Let's hope that these Texans aren't having any of this return to 'jobs for the Moyes' Everton era decisions.
I hope so.TBF how Thelwell dealt with Dyche suggests there wouldn’t be similar drama with Moyes; there weren’t any rows in public over the former manager not playing JOB or Beto (or Lindstrom in a correct position.
Now they are being played and we look vastly improved it’s also obvious who was right. I just hope Moyes recognizes what’s been done to stabilize and start rebuilding, from his public utterances so far it looks like he does.

I just don't think we can say this with any conviction whatsoever because it's not clear to us what the remit of a Director of Football at this club (or Brighton for that matter) actually is. It's not really like a player or a manager, it's almost impossible for us to judge whether a DoF is doing a good job because we don't know what their objectives are, what the internal structure of the club is, or what restrictions they may be working under.Absolutely not; the sort of lazy decision that almost ruined this club.

You should check the list. You'd be surprised how many duds he signed. That would be a good thing to have a dof who answers to Moyes. The transfers we made under Moyes were better than the transfers we made with any DOF after him
No this would not be a good thing. It would be nice and cosy for a while but the manager and DOF need to be independent. Ultimately the DoF is there to steer the long term vision and part of that is to ensure continuity and stability beyond managerial changes. That would be a good thing to have a dof who answers to Moyes. Last DoF hire from Bri

Beattie, van der Meyde, Kroldrup, Heitinga (one good season), Jelavic (half a good season), Wright, Davies, Baardsen, M. Gueye, Anderson Silva, Vellios, Said, not to mention the freebies & loans that amounted to nothing. These were duds, there were also players who weren't good value for money, like Johnson and Bilyaletdinov. We even paid 5 million for Phil Neville back when that was a big fee.
And he was at the club for 11 years. About 20 transfer windows. So it wasn't exactly great window after great window. For instance in 2005/06 he signed van der Meyde, Kroldrup, Neville, Davies, Arteta (loan made permanent), Valente, Silva, Ruddy, Ferrari (on loan) and Stubbs on a free. 09/10 was a bit better but still a mixed bag: Bilyaletdinov, Heitinga, Distin, Senderos, Peterlin, Donovan. Next season looked like he had about the same amount of money as Thelwell has had and he signed M. Gueye, Vellios, Mucha and Beckford. Furthermore, next season saw him sign Jelavic, Gibson, Pienaar on loan from Spurs, Fransisco Junior, Straqualursi, Drenthe, Hahnemann and Donovan on loan again.
He had some great windows but also some.. not so great. If we could have a window similar to 07/08 it would be transformative. We signed Yakubu, Baines, Jagielka, Howard and Pienaar on loan (and some more forgettable names). Second best window was, IMO, 08/09 with Fellaini, Pienaar's loan made permanent, Coleman and Saha (as well as Jo, Castillo, Jacobsen and Nash).
