No he didn’t , he was already at Brighton for years looking after their youngsters, he got promoted from within. I don’t know if Kenright leaked the news but it was posted on GOT that he was coming to Everton after somebody was talking to Weir’s daughter who was with Everton Ladies then.
Ta, unmistakably everton all of this.

I would like Weir and he seems to have done a good job at Brighton. I just feel it would be harsh on Thelwell to get rid. He's been really hamstrung at Everton and may actually be a good option if given some finances. He seems the type who will work with what Moyes wants rather than the other way around as well. Which will suit us as Moyes has an excellent eye for a player.

I am incredibly sceptical of getting staff from Brighton. They have a fantastic infrastructure with strong leadership and vision at the very top ie CEO level. Look at the individuals who have left very successful tenures at Brighton and struggled.

Would Weir be a massive step up from Thelwell? Who has he bought? Where is his scouting network?

If it's true, it'll be because Moyes wants to control all transfers, so someone who wont challenge him like Weir will be a patsy for that purpose.

Remember he wanted Weir or Stubbs or Neville to take over at Everton when he left for United so he could come back here and take unproblematically any player he wanted from us.

Thelwell is doing a decent enough job under the circumstances. There's no gain to hiring an unproven DoF like Weir.

Would be interesting to know exactly who does what there. They get their data from star lizard, but there must be more to it than that otherwise you’d think there’s no point to them having scouts, head of recruitment, DOF etc (although DOF does more than just transfers obviously)

Your internal knowledge and behind the scenes info of the inner workings of all the premier league clubs never fails to amaze me.

Go and take a look at what Weir ACTUALLY does at Brighton. He's basically pastoral care of young players.

He's a million miles away from a DoF and the having the competency for such a job.

If he comes in here at Moyes request to replace Thelwell it's all about Moyes wanting all control of football affairs. Nothing to do with Weir's suitability for the post.

Why wouldn't he want control?

You act like it's a bad thing.

Excellent points and I fully agree. I would like Thelwell to stay on.

It was reported that Moyes didn't get on with the West Ham Director of Football (banned him from the training ground) and you can imagine they disagreed on players leaving Moyes with an unbalanced squad.

Yes, what you assert above makes sense.
