David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

I personally always wanted Silva or Dyche but our situation is now so perilous that previously unpalatable choices do have to be considered extremely seriously, Unsworth carrying on is not an option.

It all comes back to a manager's ability to make the very most and get the absolute maximum from poor quality goods.

Some managers have proven adept at doing so time and time again, unfortunately Unsworth seems to have them playing at a standard a level or five below that of their collective ability.

The defence aren't performing to the sum of their parts.

We're all taken aback by just how poor they've become and how drastically it's happened but I think the individuals we have are capable of much, much better.

Look at Leicester's back 4 when they won the league - Fuchs, Morgan, Huth, Simpson.

Are those 4 defenders miles better than Baines, Keane, Jagileka/Williams, Kenny/Holgate/Martina? I don't think they are and their goalkeeper isn't better than Pickford either.

If we remember the start of that season, Leicester were letting in too many goals. They were scoring them, building confidence, winning games but still letting in too many, so Ranieri drilled the life out of them and in the second half of the season they started grinding results out.

We need a manager to drill our defenders. Standards have slipped massively, maybe it's because they're acting up like school children with a substitute teacher but somebody needs to start whipping bums and taking names. Double, boring, grueling, mind-numbing defensive sessions are what's required.

Of course, we should consider buying new defenders because of the age of 3 of our core defenders, but the ones we have right now can be improved and also the defensive midfield players need to start doing their jobs too. How often have we played 2 holding defensive mids? Yet still teams walk through us.

Totally agree that we need to shore up the back first. You build the house from the foundations up to the roof, not the other way round. Unfortunately however it wasn’t just about the defence for Leicester. They possessed Kante who has undoubtedly been the best defensive midfielder in the league since his arrival and he and Drinkwater formed a fantastic partnership. Add to that the pace and lethality of both Vardy and Mahrez that year and you realise that anybody who said we didn’t need pace in the summer was deluded. Their defenders may not be definitively better than ours, but the rest of their team that season functioned a whole lot better as a unit. I do think Niasse could be our Okazaki though.

Right now we need to stop shipping goals, and I’d take 0-0’s over 2-2’s all day every day. Unfortunately this is where Unsworth and the potential “sexy” managerial candidates worry me. Silva and Villas-Boas teams have a habit of conceding goals, and also take some absolute wallopings. We’ve had all that with Martinez. When you don’t have great attacking prowess you’ve got to be winning games 1-0. And unfortunately right now that means getting in one of the less sexy choices as a manger.

Personally I wont him gone now, fed up looking and listening to him, also am I the only one who thinks that if someone else IS appointed to the managers job that DU is out on his ear, I can't see him being let back at the U23s now after all of this and there were also calls from some posters here awhile back that if someone else is made manager that DU should be his assistant, now that I can't see either for the reason that who would come in and have the 'other' guy who wanted the job stuck as their #2? I don't see a championship side even taking him unless he goes lower and learns his trade.

Sadly Unsy is just not the man for the job.But i'd love it if he pulls a major rabbit out of the hat, and we stuff the Saints tomorrow.God the Southampton fans will be giving us serious stick, im just so desperate to see us stick it right up em and beat them tomorrow. If this is Unsy's last game in charge. Then he deserves to go out on a winning note.
