David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

I don't think there is any point in giving DU the job now, officially.

Let the next few weeks pan out and see how it goes.

To appoint him now and then end up in a position where he has to be removed later would be a nightmare scenario for all.

Not for me. Uncertainty around the manager position will cause players to think the situation is fluid. That could have the effect of making some believe they'd best wait for a permanent manager to be announced before they puled their finger out.

I don't agree with much that Merson says, but I think he's spot on here.

Tuchel - I don't know that much about him but from what I've heard I'd rather not go for him. Had trouble with boards at the clubs he's been at, apparently a bit arrogant and players fall out with him. Also his tactics are completely different to how we play and we would need 6-7 new players to suit it.

Another one who people think will be amazing as they are German and anything to do with German football atm is amazing. Like the German GK craze because Neuer is a great keeper, but the some German goalkeepers that have come over to the PL aren't all that.

I've said German quite a lot there...

Ancelotti - can't see him coming here and think it would just be another job for him.

Also I've seen the u23s play some great football, one touch football, movement, hard work and winning lots of games.

Have wanted Unsworth to be our next manager for a while and glad he's getting given a go!

This meeting today with Kenwright: it all should be ended (the uncertainty) with the declaration DU is manager for the rest of the season.

I dont see a reason not to hedge our bets. Would be fool hearty at this point, to beat the chest and get rush of blood to the head, im all for a 4-5 game audition, if the players want him as manager its extra motivation to get results. If not then we have options. I dont see a reason not to keep as many options open as possible.

Forgetting about the personalites involved having options best serves Everton at the moment in my opinion.

Bit surprised by his game plan V Chelsea, contain for 60 minutes then take off McCarthy then go for it.If we'd started the way we played the last third ...bit too Koeman for me.

We can keep options open and STILL declare Unsworth as manager until the end of the season.

Nothing to stop a change of mind on that a couple of months down the line if it hasn't worked out.

Atm we have uncertainty. That needs to be eliminated immediately for a club in our position.

Leicester obviously had their man lined up when Shakespeare left. It doesn't feel like that for us, sadly.

End this now and declare Unsworth in charge for the forseeable.

Disagree, its forcing everyone into a corner, if things dont work out Unsworth will be forrced to leave the club in my opinion and we have lost a very good U23 coach, like Waggy plying his wears at Newcastle, the club would loose a great club man and obviously an excellent coach which is a huge shame. He has a pivotal role in the pathway and development of players into the senior squad.

Like i say if the players want him they have five or so games to improve performences to back him, its good management. If results are good win/win.

While there is space and time to bring in a fire fighter if required, to be frank for the good showing he has had so far, he has only been in charge for one PL game ever (i think). Its good board management to reduce the amount of risk around this while being fair.

Stakes are to high for a snap decision in my opinion as tempting as chest beating is.

I'm with Davek on this, putting Unsworth through an audition is pointless, it won't prove much one way or the other and it SHOULD be the case that those inside the club are best placed to assess whether he is in for the long haul or just the season, but not a few games. Look at Leicester with Shakespeare, a few games and a run of results in the end proved nothing. Give clarity and stability by giving Unsworth the rest of the season and take a view thereafter.
