David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

and out of 2 comps already

10 points would give us a good chance of going through.

Win the next three - through

I mean, we're not always going to judge 'Unsy' on how he gets them running about, are we? He'll have to start winning at some point.

If he's going to make a solid case for the job, he knows it himself that if he's going to get it, he has to win games. The best case he can make is to win games.

And win them fast before Moshiri gets set on a manager - hopefully Tuchel - that he can bring in and starts talking to them.

I don't think he'll beat Leicester and we'll probably put in a half decent display but that isn't going to get it done for us nor Unsworth.

Ultimately, that's what leads to relegations - battling performances that don't produce points and results.

Not necessarily your comments for Unsworth mate but there does seem to be an overridng sentiment between fans - especially on here and social media - that because of what happened with Koeman, we must now hire an Everton man. It's all very sentimental.

As above, if he's going to make his case for the job - he has to win games. We can't afford to give him the job based on who he is and what he's done with the youths. I love him and what he's done as much as anyone but if can't produce results and we can only say: "well, we played well for an hour and we were unlucky" that's not going to do anyone any favours.

If Tuchel doesn't want the job and Unsworth can win 2 of the next 3 - mainly Leicester and Watford - he can have the job from my point of view.

I'm just not sold on giving him on the back of Wednesday's loss and what he's done at the youth level.

agree 100%

I think we had 22 points after 16 or 17 games last season when we got into Europe

14 points from the next 8 games, easily doable.
Last season we had Lukaku on fire.

I really think we need to recalibrate over what's possible here with the dogs breakfast of a team Koemoyes left us.

are you going to Lyon ?? I'm kinda looking forward to going again now, ive been dreading it the last 3 or 4 weeks!

Not for me. Uncertainty around the manager position will cause players to think the situation is fluid. That could have the effect of making some believe they'd best wait for a permanent manager to be announced before they puled their finger out.

I certainly share your concern regarding application and commitment of the players. Whilst Koeman undoubtedly brought his demise on himself, I do think there was an element of tools being downed in the squad and worryingly that is the 2nd time we have seen such antics from an Everton squad, or elements of it, inside 18 months.

My concern would be that a 2nd sacking would be unprecedented for Everton, so at least for the short-term, it may be prudent to sit tight. You are very much on the money though with your concerns about player attitudes, I am immensely worried about this and that we don't have enough fighters/characters.

Interesting one.

Lukaku by game 9 had 6 goals - including a hattrick at Sunderland.

Rooney has 4 in 9.

Lots of reasons to be positive, and hold 'Unsy' to the same standards. Win the next three or rule yourself out of the job.

Agree completely, he's got to start winning, he knows that too as he's said it's all about winning games. If he's not up to it I'm sure he'd happily step aside.

Wednesday wasn't a win, but the second half was a step in the right direction

Agreed.

Getting performances out of this team is like herding cats.

There is easily the scope for a wrong appointment to crash us through the trap door.

I say again though: the solution cant be to have the impression we are drifting and Unsworth is playing game by game for a job. That is destabilising in and of itself.

Just cut through the Gordian Knot and have done with this.

Rooney isn't going to propel us to a European spot.

Not much except for the fact it's coming out of Merson's mouth and now we must go far away from Unsworth as possible as he has Merson's backing and he's usually incredibly wrong.
don't shoot the messenger...he might be a blert, but even blerts get it right now and again.
Make no mistake, Unsworth has it in him to succeed...'events' may and will conspire against him...it's always 'events' that upset the apple cart
The big question is Do Everton have it in them to let him.

He's on course for 17 league goals David, which would almost certainly put us in Europe.

Come on, no excuses for Unsy. Needs at least two wins in the next three to even be considered for the job.

Four losses from four and it's back to the U23 gulag.

then give royle a go, after that ebbrell, then jeffers, then jimmy the kit man...duncan last

what happens if we lose 3 nil at Leicester?
Stuff happens, early days. It didn't all go to custard from Sunday to Wednesday. It won't all be sweetness and light Wed to Sun.
Palace lost a few then beat Chelsea.

I didn't know about this meeting, but I hope they appoint Unsworth until a review at the end of the season...even if it is because there's nobody else they fancy who's free or wants to come here
