David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

I agree with those who say that appointing Unsworth would be a bit small time for everton- he may be fantastic in the future but if we see ourselves as a big club we need to bring in big proven managers. The whole idea of unsworth and a team full of everton under 23s is very romantic and clearly appealing to many here, but in reality will just make us a bang average /bottom half premier team.
Chelsea appointed the unknown Avram grant as Jose's replacement would you class them small time?

I've said Tuchel for a while now too. Short of him, though, I wouldn't be rushing to appoint any of the other names mentioned.

I honestly think we need a caretaker period where a man who is guaranteed the commitment of these players is allowed to rescue us.

We've seen how this squad can shrink from the challenge over the last few seasons when they dont like the atmosphere about the club. My worry is that a new face in authority they dont like will get less than 100% commitment. I genuinely think with the wrong move we could flirt with catastrophic danger this season.

Would you say Unsy should be used as a caretaker manager for a month or two?

(in bold) So right on this Dave, this is a crucial decision. I would like to see our manager who ever it is to take on board "the Club" and not as Koeman did just a means of a big pay packet and moving on asap.

At the end of the day any new manager is stuck with this squad - its a hard job for anyone imo!

No arguments about that Joey, and Unsworth may very well be up to it, but on the flip side i would want him to have the maximum chance of succeeding and reckon right now is the wrong time - he needs more experience dealing with 'older' players and lets face it bigger ego's, if thats here as a 'wanted' assistant manager to someone like Tuchel, or if it means he goes earns his spurs at a championship club i dunno whats better

But realistically he is the one former pro we have with a genuine shot at managing us - and i want him to have the best chance of succeeding.

I also think we need some serious investment in the team still, a good quality cb, a replacement for Baines - a top level one, one good striker, and a wide player with genuine pace and quality about him, and think a higher profile manager may be able to attract those in - where we may struggle to do so with Unsworth at the helm.

Agree with all that Tuchel may be snapped up by Bayern munich anyway!

I'd be looking beyond the international break, which seems to be what everyone believes is the time period DU will get. That's a harsh period of games.

Many were saying Koeman should be given to after the new year. I see know reason why DU shouldn't get the same time.

Quite so but if does not work out, the kind of manger you were talking highly of Tuchel, may not be available which as I said this is so crucial.

Just taking the list of names being thrown around, and instantly discarding the click-bait stupid ones like Moyes, Allardyce, Coleman, Giggs, Neville etc

Its basically Fonseca - done well in Ukraine but aside from that not much to go on (and trust me winning the league with Shaktar or Kiev is not exactly a great managerial feat), Silva - done well with Hull - doing better at Watford, but neither job had a single ounce of pressure on him - so very very easy to over achieve at those clubs, Ancelotti - Why would he come here - simple question really, it's not going to be that he thinks within two or three years he can win CL and Premier league trophies, so it is basically a retirement fund IF he did take it - or a pay check whilst he waits for another big team to offer him the job - so could end up needing a new manager next summer in reality, Mancini and Pelligrini - both been here and know the league - but neither one particularly inspires does it? Howe - just no - he's basically a Martinez version 2 IMO, Dyce - a good young manager - but again easy to overachieve with no expectations, hes the type you'd need to see take a step up to a Newcastle/Saints etc before judging fully, Benitez - hmmm conflicted, he'd 100% improve us, but the rs links are VERY hard to ignore and he would never ever win over everyone by a long shot.

So your left with Tuchel as the only one who is outstanding IMO, so tend to agree with you really.

Ideal situation i've said before is we offer it to Tuchel and off his own bat he states he wants Undsworth as his assistant, that would instantly get the fans and team on side i reckon

The more respected views from people with a clue about Bayern (i don't have a clue btw) is that they really want the young Hoffenheim coach mate, think if Tuchel was their preferred choice they'd already have got him in.

I guess the issue is that other opportunities for potential candidates may arise in that time and we could miss out as a result of that.

What I can advise on is that the likelihood of Dyche was a newspaper story, spoke to a person today who is well in the Burnley ITK staed no way was he leaving.

Spot on mate. The assembled list has the variety of flaws you outline.

I see the season now as a wreck that we need to be careful not to turn into a calamity. I'm not saying Unsworth long term or anything (unless he really shines). But I just see dangers ahead with this group of players. My hunch is that they want Unsworth in and if they get someone who pushes and prods them they'll get us into trouble big time.

I realise this is not a popular view but if it comes to the worst and we are in a genuine scrap, then I would get Allardyce in.

In less dramatic circumstances I wouldn't consider him at all but I really hope that its Unsworth who has the strength of character and ability to get us through this.

Next 6-8 weeks are crucial, if we havent picked up by then, we are in a dogfight and we have to take whatever decisions are required to mitigate against disaster.

Possibly. But there's always other good managers.
Yes, that's true. It's hard to judge really, you'd like to think the board had someone in mind when they disposed of RK and an idea that it was a realistic proposition for them to come. And then we think more carefully about our board......
