2025/26 David Moyes

I think the biggest problem is we haven't had enough games - especially in this half of the season. It's been so long between matches that as a manager you're probably less inclined to move things around and instead play what you think is your best team.

The squad isn't huge but it's definitely a lot bigger than what it would have been 10/15 years ago.
We haven't had enough games because we surrendered in the cups Bournemouth haven't been in Europe but still managed to have 18-20 first team players, that's what you need in these days of 5 subs a match.

Or when we find ourselves in 17th early doors without a win in 6. The trauma will be revisited. This club is no place to roll the dice just yet.

For me personally, I think the manager deserves a chance to keep building. It's been a typical up and down mid table season for him and the players but they'll be better for it come August.

In my opinion, I don't think it's ever a good idea to get rid of a manager who's done a decent job. Football fans are very fickle. If our form around the Chelsea game was being replicated now then I don't think many people would question whether Moyes was here at the start of the season.

We had 10 players leave in the summer. Ideally another 10 leave this summer. But they all need replaced.

We have had one summer window to replace 10 which is a big ask, especially if we are wanting them all starting quality. It’s a process which was always going to take several seasons to get the squad good enough.

We have effectively had this season with most of the 11 that have been crap for last few years and bench mainly of kids or ageing players. (Or just dross who aren’t good enough for top half like McNeil).

We only have like 5, maybe 6 actually decent players who you would say should be playing in europe.

Haalands goal is something most Evertonians are not surprised by because we have seen all season Keane and tarky CANNOT play anything other than a low block together, the only person who insists on it is the manager, just so he can put JOB at RB ???? Honestly so bizarre, It makes no sense, that goal does not happen with JOB at centre back. Can anyone honestly argue this obsession he has for shoehorning in these two in for their "experience" because it will continue to cost goals like it's done all season.
With JB out there is only Coleman or Patterson otherwise, if JOB moves to the centre.

Would either of those two have done better against Doku?

Given that JOB was getting schooled all game, I suppose you could argue it.

Patto came on and Doku scored immediately tho…

Absolute prio #1 first signing this summer must be an RB.

And who plays right back?
Patterson against Doku.
Do you really fancy that?

Mate, it doesn`t matter what you say, even if we`d managed to hang on last night and won, there`d still be people on here giving him pelters, as we won the " wrong way ".

At the same time if we`d won, half of them would`ve disappeared as usual, popping up again the next time we got beaten.

I’m coming to the conclusion that leaving him in his job is more damaging than gambling on an ambitious manager. We spent £100m+ last summer and the only players he’s regularly picked from that outlay have been Grealish and KDH. Why spend more this summer? It’s looking like we’re only going to end up a few points better off last season and in roughly the same league position. Moyes was talking guff at the end of last season about this season being ‘transformational.’ Hes massively underachieved against his own criteria.
If we sign young players then Moyes refuses to play them, now we’re being linked with players around 30 who are crocked, will be on massive wages and have no resale value like Stones and White. These are obviously ‘Moyes picks.’

….you can blame him for his part in buying disappointing footballers but I wouldn’t blame him for not playing them. There’s only Dibling and Aznou that have really failed to play much of a part and Aznou was a low-risk purchase. KDH a terrific acquisition, Grealish a big impact and Rohl could be a shrewd bit if business.

There was a lot of churn last summer with the mess of so many out of contract, quite an improvement in a short time. We have a manager who is ambitious for the club, have no doubt about that. He’s also progressive, we’ve improved significantly.

What he isn’t is young and foreign.

makes u think that in training moyes always plays first eleven vs the rest, and ignores the rest.

when our subs come on or start they always look so rusty or just arrived, not knowing their roles.
being played out of position doesn't help either but I dun see much proper partnerships atm apart from Grealish to kdh for eg

The current league table isn’t showing significant improvement. Neither is our home form.
Moyes tells us he has the final say on transfers- if that’s true then his judgement of Dibling, Aznou, Rohl and Alcaraz has to be questioned as they’ve hardly played and will cost us something like £80m after we’ve paid the fee for Rohl this summer.

….he certainly has to be held accountable for transfers. Supporting somebody doesn’t mean you blindly think everything he does is wonderful, just as not supporting shouldn’t mean everything he does is bad.

I think the summer window was a mixed bag and the two most costly players have disappointed (Dibling and Barry) but there was significant churn and we needed numbers with so many out of contract. Not all transfers work but I do think we’ve significantly improved under Moyes and I’m certain he’ll be overseeing this window.

Should be interesting.

‘If’ is doing some heavy lifting in that sentence. Our form hasn’t been replicated, it’s been rubbish. 2 points from 12 and we’ve dropped right out of European contention. Our home form has been woeful- aside from Forest and Chelsea the home performances have been terrible as well.

Apologies. There is nobody in world football that could do any better than David Moyes that would be interested in a top 20 in the world salary managing an EPL club. Gotcha. Seems reasonable.
You keep overlooking my point about a realistic target. The same as players, managers are drawn to the chance of European football. We don't offer that so the fantasy football names being bandied about just aren't going to come.

Ultimately it will depend on just how ambitious the new owners are, if they really do want to achieve something they’ll be looking for a successor because moyes will always have a glass ceiling and an inferior mentality, that will never change no matter the time or money available. If they’re happy plodding along he’ll stay and get a new deal because he at least offers stability

It's been a very mid table performance by a very mid table side. We had a similar situation under one of the best managers in the history of the game while he was here.

I think it's criminal we've conceded 3 stoppage time goals in the last 3 weeks and a lot of that is down to the manager. I also think we would likely be in a very similar position regardless of who was in charge.
