2025/26 David Moyes

But why?

What’s the point in pushing this agenda, rather than letting yourself be happy we are in a better position?

Can we be better? Of course.
Should we aim for better? Yes.
Does that mean we can’t appreciate the improvement over the last year? For most people, no

It’s frustrating that everybody is happy that we are not fighting relegation and that’s the sum of their ambition. Moyes best is best of the rest, if you are happy with that so be it but I’m not & i hope the owners aren’t either,😀 Happy New Year

I'd say Davek is fixed in his views Eggs

We had still a game day squad of 15 outfit players that cost circa £250M to assemble.

We were and we are not 'short of numbers'.

A club is short of numbers when they struggle to get 11 out.

We have never been short of players this Christmas period.

You’re a lunatic lol

We had a striker and a midfielder on the bench … the rest were kids that have exactly zero prem games of experience and many have not even made the bench before .

We ended with a cm playing rb

I think that’s also summed up in my post.

“Can we be better? Of course.

We can aim for better while also appreciating the improvement seen so far. No one should feel the need to be so extreme either way.

Don’t think anyone is saying they are satisfied with where we are currently, but it’s a far cry from where we’ve been. We aren’t about to win the league, but progress is earnt over time and the signs of recovery are there to be seen.

You can be happy with our progress and want us to progress further again at the same time they aren’t mutually exclusive.

Jep, we were, but I had not the fear like under Dyche in 24/25 that we will regress in so many areas comparing to the season before.

Moyes delivers what Moyes does.
He does deliver in the areas that matter, points from teams we should take points from, but unfortunately you can look at the fixture list preseason and pick the games you know we won't win.

Which is fine for now, given our squad. To be fair to Moyes we did win at Old Trafford, which I was amazed by, but United are a strange team at the moment. My one hope is because he has only got a few years left in him now, Moyes will be more positive in his attempts to win a trophy.

Scary to think it was only 12 months ago we were looking at the likes of Ipswich not winning so we never dropped into the bottom 3 and Sean Dyche telling us he's the best you'll get.
Dont mistake that for we're pulling up any trees now but its a massive improvement in the space of 12 months.
If we kick on a bit we're an outside bet for European football.
Definetely going in the right direction for once.

We had games like Forest, Newcastle and United away where I didn't expect the wins, but also we had Burnley, Leeds or West Ham, where dropped points.

Overall, he showed enough that he's probably in that tier 3 of top managers of all times, a very good manager with a proven record to succeed at teams outside the elite, but he's not top level like Carlo or Sir Alex and showed a lot of times what's missing to join that bracket.

All your points are valid, but some mid table teams win at Arsenal,Chelsea,City and the pit. I can remember vividly Xmas shopping for my baby daughters presents the last time we won at Arsenal, she's now in her 30s

Everyone can have their own opinion, but the way I look at it is this...

The expectation levels before Moyes came in was that we avoid relegation because we had a very poor squad for reasons we all know about.

Since Moyes arrived we've had one transfer window, in which we spent the 13th most out of any Premier League club.

If we had a poor squad before that window and 12 other clubs spent more than us, what's a fair level of expectation now?

I want Everton to be in Europe and competing to win stuff, but I'm not sure that's a very fair current level of expectation for right now given the above.

In 18 months from now, I'd expect my expectation levels will be very different from what they are today.

It’s a game of small margins, particularly this season, which side of those margins we come out on is going to have a big bearing on how the season is viewed. Currently we’re 8th which I think everybody should be viewing as at the very least ‘acceptable’ given recent years. We’re 2 points off 5th, which would be an absolutely fantastic season, but conversely we’re only 3 points off 14th which would be a really disappointing return. We’ll see how it pans out but for me where we are right now is solid progress.
