2025/26 David Moyes

Not starting Dibling is going to have very little impact on the result. It will take an awful lot more for us to get something. But plenty will use the non selection of a 19 year old who has shown very little in his time here to sharpen the knives if we lose to the team who go top of the league with a win. It takes all sorts i guess .

He’s barely had a sniff to show what he can offer.

I like Moyes, and think he’s done a good job.

But I also can see a side of him I don’t particularly like (treatment of young players generally)

It is OK for people to see both sides of him. It doesn’t mean it’s a pile on in either direction on him.

He’s got good traits, and bad traits. Nothing wrong with discussing that.

I genuinely can’t be head around people’s reaction to the Dibling thing. McNeil was our best attacking player for a couple of seasons and is a very experienced premier league player, capable of putting in a defensive shift. I don’t like him much but I can totally understand why he’d start against Arsenal instead of a 19 year old who’s looked terrified in his appearances so far.

The fact that McNeil was our main attacking threat for a few years is one of the reasons why we were fighting relegation the whole time.

McNeil is one footed and moves like hes been kneecapped. Diblings defensive stats are better then McNeils and if we are to get anything tonight we need to be able to counter attack. We cant do that with McNeil.

Stats wise dibling is better them McNeil and should be playing imo.

Also just the small matter of dibling actually being a RW and McNeil cant play RW

Not at all.
But if we dont get a result it will be used as the reason. That's the way some think here .
Id suggest if we don't get anything its because we are playing a side better better then us and we are missing 4 key players from a lightweight squad.

And you may be right.

I really hope McNeil has a worldy tonight, but I thinks most people’s frustrations (including me) that we’ve procured a very exciting player who was showing last season he had that bit of magic not many players have.

Where he ‘might’ win a game on his own.

A player that gets us off our seat.

That’s what I’m craving to see, as I’m sure most are…

A draw would be a great result. I think tonight will be a bit of a wake up call showing up the paucity of our squad. We know it's light, but tonight will possibly show just how light.

It’s a bang average squad with a few quality players sprinkled on top. Any decent result each game is a bonus/surprise for me these days.

“Stats wise” 🤣

2 goals and 0 assists in 33 games last season. McNeil had 4 goals and 6 assists in 21

In a team that was built with McNeil as our main attacking option. Took every set piece and played behind the striker.

And dibling in a Southampton side thats only ambition last season was not going down as the worst side to ever play in the PL.

Mate, I don’t rate McNeil. But point me to the stats that say Dibling is better.

100% agree with this. Personally with us getting new owners and a new stadium, i always saw this as a season where what we needed was stability. For that reason I’ll take Moyes and a mid table finish all day.

Yep my thoughts too,but I honestly think if these owners have real ambition, they will already be identifying or have identified a long term replacement for next season.👍
