2025/26 David Moyes

We've just achieved enough points to finish 12th twice on the spin, closer to Europe than Relegation - admittedly, punching considering our squad but we've then spent a club record amount in the summer. Surely no Evertonian is still factoring relegation into the equation.

As for the next run of games, I predict;

29th Sept - West Ham (H) W
5th October - Palace (H) W
18th October - Man City (A) L
26th October - Spurs (H) D

^ Wow look at that congestion, 3 games in October?! Just as well we rested treble winner Grealish and co.

Strap yourselves in, we're going all out for a magnificent 7th.

So why are people moaning about going out of a tin pot cup?
Look at last years winners of the cups with their open top bus parades if that was us we would be embarrassed and laughed at.
We should be higher up the league and qualifying for the elite competitions therefore keeping our better players for the league.
If we finish in these positions as a result of not overplaying the better players then it's a job well done but we won't know this until much later in the season.

7th would be magnificent.
 
Pereira did a job on Moyes last night: basically offered Moyes the swap of making loads of changes himself to match his 9 changes.

Like a divvy Moyes fell into the trap of making 7 changes to a team that's been playing very well by and large, because the opposition are making 9 changes...9 changes to a pathetically underperforming team.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that could be a bad move...but Moyes didn't work it out.

An absolute duffer walking around this club like he's a success because he won the Auto Trader European Trophy.

How anyone defends him is beyond me.

We aren't spending £30 mill (conservatively) on 25 players - so we have to develop Dibilng Charly, Barry Azouu, Rohl etc - we can accept they aren't the finished product - we can accept we need to develop yung players - why do we think that means we should win a trophy this season - that just doesn't make sense to me. To my mind we invested the least of our resources in the summer on right now (Grealish and KDH) and the majority in the future on the player i mentioned above. There is nothing in our investments or actions that says the prioitity is right now - they say in the future.

Sure you can fluke one now, but its more unlikely then not given the context.

I get the feel good, recovery, we're back baby stuff - but it has limits year 1.

It's not about us having to win a trophy this season. No one is saying its essential.

The argument we are making is that the manager must do his very best to try and win a trophy. Leaving our best players on the bench is the complete opposite to trying your best.

Your argument makes no sense because it's a counter to an argument I've not seen anyone make. No matter how good or bad we are, we should be trying our very best to win silverware, otherwise what is the point. If our best players lose then so be it, that's sport.

And that takes me to another point.... what is the point of Everton as a football club even if we aren't interested in trying to win?

I don't think there's any point/validity to any manager of Everton fielding a weakened team in a cup competition, no.

I find it frustrating that same manager can shrug off exiting a cup in the manner we did as not being a missed opportunity.

I also have no confidence in Moyes' approaching to winning domestic trophies, no matter how much you talk up incremental steps - because the fella has had as many opportunities as any and hasn't won any. I don't think it's a coincidence, or some part of a wider master plan as you do.

Grealish is ineligible for 1 of those matches too.

He will play twice in October yet needed a rest yesterday

No one said anyone said winning a trophy was essential, it’s whether having an expectation to do so given were we are in the project is reasonable and logical, given the level of upset being expressed. ;)

It's not about expectation either. Cup competitions aren't complicated and you take it game by game and on a given day you have a chance.

Yesterday was a very winnable game but the manager decided to drastically reduce our chances of success through his selections.

He didn't take the game seriously. He didn't give us the best chance of success. That is inexcusable regardless of projects, or how good or bad we are.

There is no bigger picture here to discuss. The manager simply gave us next to no chance of winning a winnable game.

He looked and sounded well hacked off last night mate.

I think that the end of at least two here.

I think he was expecting more realistically, he may have got that wrong, but I think that surprised and disappointed him.

To be fair I was disappointed with almost all the players last night - they are better than that.
