2025/26 David Moyes

I'm at peace that he's staying. The overriding thought that if we sacked him mid season we'd end up with someone we didn't necessarily plan for. My only hope is that there's someone ready and waiting to give life to the club and team with fresh new ideas. Wave him goodbye at the end of his contract and part ways amicably. Hopefully in Europe.
I think the fear is by not acting now, if he gets off to a slow start (schedule, no Jack, not the players he wants, Branthwaite still injured), he will be sacked mid season and we will be shopping in the bargain basement for a manager to give us " stability" and we will have made zero progress in two years...

I’d like to know who, if anyone, they were planning on for when Dyche’s contract was up. They’re coming up to two seasons of having the guy who supposedly wasn’t their 1st choice for when Dyche was due to leave. If they dont have a properly sounded out target by now, I think we can resign ourselves to several more season’s of this dour old dinosaur’s mediocrity.

He will once again have embedded himself into a position of comfortably doing nothing while claiming to have moved mountains to have us finish 7th.

What's mad is that is usually when Moyes is at his best. In his first spell he almost always wound up with the best team when injuries or suspensions happened then stuck with that. This time? It's his "trusted" players regardless of how anyone else plays. Just such a negative manager.
Also in his first spell he generally finished a season well when the pressure was off.
This season as soon as he started talking up getting in europe it all went to pot.

Telling in form players that they are out the team because of their height.

Neither of those players games were effected because of height.
I think most reasonable people would agree that a manager can and should adapt the starting lineup depending on the strengths of the opponents. I haven't got this book so I might be wrong, but the only game the description appears to match was in December 2004. Bolton were a load of big, physical groks so we started Duncan Ferguson instead of Osman. That, to me, is clearly absolutely fine. Telling Osman the reason is also fine. We won the game, so no problem there.

I know it's been a bad season and Moyes doesn't appear to still have it, if he ever did, and there are criticisms to be made from his first spell as well, but there's a level of revisionism here. I absolutely cannot see how treating Leon Osman, Leighton Baines or Tony Hibbert badly by not playing them was one of those criticisms.

That piece might only refer to one specific game, but that is Moyes all over, and we know it is.

Good for you.

Enjoy next season and hope you are still at peace when we are in 18th place in November.
