2025/26 David Moyes

Why does everyone discount the FA Cup that Arteta won in his very first season? He’d already eclipsed Moyes trophy wise in his first few months as a Manager. We’d kill for an FA Cup.
Probably because he won it with a team that he inherited rather than built.
Slot won a title in his first year with Klopps team, doesn't make Slot a good manager.

It is reasonable to judge managers on the team they build and the cost of doing so.
Certainly Arteta had come good this season , the league in the bag and the CL final to come

I don't want a team built by Moyes.

They're playing a dangerous game asking us to pay £800 - £1200 to watch the crap they're serving up and offering no ambition for the future. If they're happy with staying around the 48 point mark they should have froze ST prices.

Moyes and Kinnear happy to play us down to try and avoid scrutiny.

I can't shake the fact he admitted to telling the players to 'keep doing what you are doing' at HT v Sunderland
The players must've known they weren't playing well but hearing that must've made them think they weren't as bad as it felt out there.
Surely some of them must be wondering wtf he was watching if they watch it back?
Brian Clough said he was more likely to praise a losing team at HT and point out bad things if they were winning even if playing well.
But to praise a winning team that are lucky to be seems really really stupid. Underwhelming doesn't even begin to cover it

They looked at the waiting list and saw wiggle room. Shareholders matter more than fans

Probably even more damning about Moyes’ general capabilities as a manager that. He inherited the Champions of England who’d won the league by 11 points and took them to 7th. So can’t be that easy to just pick up someone else’s team and go with it. Do you think if Moyes had inherited that Arsenal team he would have won the FA Cup in his first season?

It took Arteta seven years I think to lift the trophy, should we be giving David a new six year contract?

The bit that sometimes gets lost when discussing Klopp, Arteta, Pep in his first season etc. is that the they retained the confidence of the fanbase because they had forward progression.

You could see the football style changing, then there was an improvement in league position, then continuous improvement, then challenging for trophies but falling short, then finally winning.

We don’t maintain the forward progression. No manager can get past a 12 month period of new manager bounce before the relegation form comes back in. Has happened to every manager since Martinez, some much quicker, other longer.

Just smacks either of poor squads that play up for a manager for a while but aren’t good enough to then move forward and just then phone it in once the novelty wears off. Or of poor managers that have an edge for a period with their plan A that gets results but once the league has cottoned on they can’t reinvent and results dip.

As the Manchester Evening News said-:

"Moyes never sounded or managed like a United manager. United got an Everton manager, Everton coaches, an Everton player and achieved an Everton finish; seventh".
