2025/26 David Moyes

There isn't a PL standard player who hasn't played in a variety of different systems in their 'journey' to become a professional player - they wouldn't reach that level if they couldn't adapt.

If you're arguing against that very obvious and correct point then you live in an abstract world where footballers just go through their careers playing one of 'direct' / 'pressing' / 'passing' football.

In fact, different styles are expected off players from game to game, and even within game, in the PL. Look at how we can go from a low block counter attacking game to one where we push up and get on the halfway line and our best players on the ball.

But as said, you and others can just keep peddling your abstractions to justify Moyes if you like...
That's not really a big change in tactics though, that's a click of a switch, changing from a low block to a quicker counter.

The last couple of games we've pressed brilliantly, retrieving the ball.
Lots more 1 touch football than we have seen previously.

The way I read your post was about changing everything not just from defensive to attack first.

He largely went to Villa because Monchi was there and now he has gone, Id expect Emery's services would be highly desired if he walked, we would struggle to compete imo.

Hmmm,

Monchi joined Aston Villa after Unai Emery. Emery was appointed head coach in October 2022, while Monchi joined as President of Football Operations in June 2023

School of Science once, still in my memory, Ball, Harvey, Kendall.

Reid, Bracewell Sheedy & Steven was too shabby either.

Happy days, how far we have fallen 😞

Be fascinating to know what percentage of this forum were not even born before that quartet of Reid Bracewell Steven and Sheedy.
