2025/26 David Moyes

i think from my observations in the home games it looks like what tends to happen is when we take the lead, we kinda enter the 'comfort zone'

we seem content to maybe sit a bit more deeper and allow the opposition to attack us and try and score on the counter

if we get a second goal then 'hell yeah' brewski's all round and we are on the path to 3 points

if we concede and it becomes 1-1 then panic mode enters and half the time we seem to capitulate

for example yesterday, after bournemouth took the lead, the impetus was then back on us as the home team to go out and attack and try and get a goal to equalise, bournemouth then became the team that entered the 'comfort zone' and were happy to sit back deeper and defend especially against 10 men and try and hit us on the counter

what we need is a game plan where we don't enter the comfort zone until we are 2-3 goals ahead of the opposition. this was something i admired with Klopp's liverpool side because even when they were winning, they always kept playing till the end trying to score more goals and even if they were winning 5-0 they wouldn't take their foot off the pedal

we unfortunately take our foot off the pedal way too often after going ahead and simply hope that the opponent is not good enough to fight back

At 1.0 down Iraola put 2 attackers on and equalised then scored a 2nd within 10mins they were on the field.

They weathered a storm but instead of shoring it up, he took a midfielder off for a striker and replaced the forward with another going 2 up top.

Moyes even before their equaliser was, and did, take off a winger for a CM and replace like for like strikers.

There's two different mentalities on display there.

Great observation.

Conversation about 3 quarters of the way through this goes to show why some people really don't want Moyes in control next summer.

Tracked Truffert for a long time only for 'decision makers' (surely Moyes) at the club to decide he wasn't good enough. Meanwhile Myko plays another full season for us. Unbelievable. Sounds like we also could have had that Rayan for peanuts when 777 were courting us.

I know we needed to reign it in after the chaos of the Moshiri era, but we're overcompensating by being far too risk averse.

Moyes will never not prioritise defence first. Even last night, when we needed a goal his move was to send his centre halves up and bring a third on to join them. Mental

Inappropriate Language
Remember when Moyes came in last season: like a Buddhist monk he was with his calmness and gentle shrugs of the shoulder.

Moyes must have murdered that alter ego and buried him under the patio.
Just wanted to get his feet under the table , he’s acted the [Poor language removed] since pre season

I don’t know if this is me being an insane conspiracy theorist nut, but do you think that there is any merit to the thought of Moyes instantly switching from ‘looking to not get relegated’ to ‘pushing for Europe’ as a means of an excuse of not using the youth. Like he has the perfect mindset to not use the youth as he is taking games seriously?
Just wish that he would use this latter portion of the season to really try and give them a go now, Europe or not.

would he have done that if we had 11 men though?

Mate what you’ve said here makes a ton of sense but unfortunately you’ve not taken into proper account the desperate need for premier league experience. That’s why Moyes makes the big bucks.
