2025/26 David Moyes

This is why slow rebuilds rarely work. If you aren't showing urgency to get better, and you don't get European football, then the handful of good players you have can get unsettled and want to move on.

We have too few good players right now to lose them. Especially with our recruitment still not being up to standard.

The league is not strong this year and this was a chance to push on. Win a couple more of these home games and we're right there but we keep throwing away good opportunities.

We need to tick every box in the summer window to show our good players we are ready to compete. That means 2 good full backs, a midfielder and above alll a goalscorer.

We've got to get Europe. Simple as that and with our home form that isn't happening

Everyone will be circling around Branthwaite & Illy and there won't be much we can so about it except take the best offer. Get Europe, we've got something to build on, something for the players to see we're heading in the right direction

‘The players have done a great job… no complaints about the players at all.’
Low expectations, low standards, accepting mediocrity.
4 home wins all season would suggest you need to either have some complaints about the players and some serious self reflection on how job set the team up.

Tbh the way he's wheeled that line out in every interview makes me think he's given out at them in the dressing room but obviously doesn't want to air it in the public.

I do hope someone asks him soon about some of these team choices. They are becoming baffling no matter how you feel about the manager. Aznou not getting a sniff, Patterson having some decent performances and then getting dropped, Rohl having a superb game at Villa, hasn’t had a minute of football since. Very confusing
Be careful y…. It’s abvoiious and clear to some on here….

Damn you to the accountability thread

He self sabotages. It's infuriating, because in many ways he is very competent. But a winner he'll never be and he has hit his ceiling (perhaps ahead of even his own schedule, but that's, perversely, a compliment to him).

I actually think we're a couple of players away from being an excellent first eleven. With a manager who wants to play front foot football I'd fancy our chances of being competitive. It just feels like old wounds are holding us back with the negatively still lingering in the corridors of power from the past few seasons. We need fresh ideas and forward thinking instead of a manager who deep down always starts a season trying to get 40 points to avoid relegation

This. It’s not sustainable because your good players are (rightly) impatient. Ndiaye and Branthwaite aren’t going to stick around for 5 years on the off chance that we might finally sign a decent full back in 3 years, or possibly a striker who can kick a ball in a straight line. They’ll want to leave, and we’ll inevitably sign worse players with the money they bring in.

Don't think any of the 4 players you've mentioned there are going to transform the team from being 8th into the top 6 tbh. All hopefully capable of improving but it's not like we're keeping world beaters on the bench.

Home form desperately needs to pick up though. Some poor results against all these mid table teams. As I said earlier, might suit us better playing against the top 6 teams.
We played Arsenal at home had 1 shot on target and hardly got into their box. We drew 0-0 with Villa. Maybe in his first stint we may have had hope of getting something from city, Chelsea, lfc and Manu at home but now..... We'll see.
As far as Dibling, Aznou, Alcaraz and Iroebonam goes Moyes bought two of them so must have thought they had something to offer. He got Rohl on loan but seems a bit reluctant to play him at the moment. As I said, it's not the full backs issue that is stopping him from playing attacking football, but his containment mentality.

There needs to be a cultural purge. Moyes did his work here last season. But if you want to purge the club of 30 years of Kenwrightism, you don't appoint Son of Bill as your first major play.
