2025/26 David Moyes

I'd say he'd have done more than enough if he got us into any European competition next season. I'd never like him or trust him, but on a football level it'd be mad not to acknowledge he'd done a very good job going from where we've been in recent years to Europe again...if that happens.

I expect though that we'll get top ten - 10th-8th.

However, Moyes seemed to have a thing for buying players and then playing them initially out of their favourite position and then by default they`d end up playing in their correct position.
Yeah, sometimes out of necessity to get them in the team when there’s an established player in their position, sometimes as a bit of a character test. There’s a method to it, but only he could explain it.

It`s happened before with Moyes,

Baines only started playing due to and injury to Lescot.
Jagielka was originally bought as a midfielder and when it became obvious he wasn`t he ended up on the bench for a while.

Lescott was bought the year before baines and was brilliant at left back and won the players player of the year.
Baines played a fair few games but lescott was still playing great at left back. Yobo got injured and lescott moved into the centre with jagielka. Baines went left back and stayed there.
This wasnt any sort of square pegs in round holes thing. Obviously the baines that we know now wasnt the baines at the time. He was still a young player signed from Wigan who went on to be an outstanding left back. But joeleon lescott at the time was sweeping up player awards at left back and then centre half at Everton.
Moyes has some good selection choices back then. The signing of lescott and baines for a total of around 11m was superb recruitment.
