I support Moyes, he’s brought structure, discipline, and a work ethic. But at the same time, we have to ask the difficult question: is Moyes part of the problem now? Not necessarily in how he sets up the team or his tactical approach, but in terms of broader club ambition and our ability to attract top-tier talent.
Let’s be honest, if we’d brought in a manager with a higher profile, someone who carries more weight in the European game, would that have helped us secure the kind of players we’re targeting? Players at the top level want to be part of a project that excites them. They want to be developed, to challenge for trophies, and they’re drawn to managers who have a reputation for doing just that.
That’s not to say Moyes hasn’t done a good job, he has, particularly considering where we were when he returned. But in the modern game, perception matters. A manager’s profile can open doors, and persuade players who might otherwise look elsewhere. So yes, it’s a fair question. Maybe even a necessary one, if we truly want to move forward.
