2024/25 David Moyes

So it will do until September? sound.
It might if we aren't bothered with making a good start and are ok with losing winnable matches. But then that also depends on actually making good last minute signings and that doesn't really ever happen at Everton

I don't understand why people are content to wait to the end of the window. When does that ever work out?

If anything prices are higher as clubs get desperate.

It's not a case of 'waiting until the end of the window'. It's a case of not panicking and blowing our wad on any old bodies whilst there's still actually time left to at least try and get our top targets through the door...

Why would any signing we make now be a panic signing? It's the second last day of July. The PL seasons starts in just over 2 weeks. It's not exactly early in the window.
If we're moving onto 4th/5th choice targets at this point in the window then we are panicking, which some of you would seem... fine with?

It's not exactly late in the window either btw....

To be fair, that’s where we might have finished, but large parts of the last 4 seasons we’ve been sat here at New Years cacking them about relegation.

Until we realised how crap the promoted teams were.
I wonder what our position has been at the midpoint of every season for the last 10 seasons.

People say we have only fought relegation for 3 years or whatever, but Koeman and silva were both sacked with Allardyce and Ancelotti being brought into to save us.

So going off the rhetoric used, we have been playing with relegation 6 of the last 10?

There's no right or wrong way of looking at it I suppose, but to me being 15th in October or whatever isn't being in a relegation battle, it's just a poor start to the season. In 19/20 we never dropped lower than 12th in the second half of the season, in 17/18 we spent 1 weekend outside the top 10 from the 15th game onwards, i think it would be pushing it to call those relegation battles.

Alternatively, we gotta go back to 2020/21 with Ancelotti for us to be safe and not fight relegation for a full season.

21/22 - Palace last day of the season, 39 points
22/23 - Bournemouth last day of the season, 36 points
23/24 - battling relegation all year, no win for four months, glory run in the last 5 games; 40 points, arsed about the deduction as we were gonners without it for a while too.
24/25 - Dyche had us going down on 1 point per game from the first 17 or so. Moyes saved us from that by going on a good run as soon as he got the job.

So is it guff? Yeah! It's not 2, it's 3 and a half, so technically he did lie.

Nah in the last two seasons we were nowhere near fighting relegation. We might have slipped near the bottom 3 for a period but constant relegation battles was something that happened in the 90's.

Why would that mean we are panicking? It could mean we were panicking, but it wouldn't mean we definitely are. If we get to the end of the window and move for our 7th or 8th choice targets because we've got to the stage where we just need bodies and our 4th and 5th choices have gone now then that would definitely be panicking, so I'm not entirely sure what point you're looking to make here.

I'd actually seriously argue that if we're literally down to 7th or 8th choices going into the last days of the window then we may as well just wrap it up instead. I'd really question the quality of a player who is that far down the list relative to what is already at the club. That's potentially reaching down into the 'any old tat' category which we should be avoiding completely..

Don't get me wrong though - if that actually does transpire then I'll be calling the club out for it myself..

The year before last we were, definitely. Obviously in large part because of the deduction but we had 27 points from 33 games, that definitely counts as being near relegation.
