2024/25 David Moyes

We were in some degree of relegation trouble at the turn of the year for 4 seasons in a row. One of them through a points deduction rather than performance, but we were still in a bad position.

I'd say poor starts were a major reason why we've been in such a bad position after the half way mark of the season
We didn't win a game of actual on the pitch football for 4 months and it was only due to the deduction and not performance?!

Of course bad starts are part of that - we're due another one as we're gonna start the same team as last year in this season's first few games. However, bad football, average players and a terrible manager combined to get us to Moyes.

As of right now...

Pickford

JOB - Tarkowski - Branthwaite - Myko

Garner
------- Gana

Ndiaye ------ Alcaraz ------ McNeil

Beto

Subs: -

Travers
Patterson
Keane
Coleman
Aznou
Iroegbunam
Armstrong
Chermiti
Barry

That's the squad as it stands, worst case. Injuries permitting, that's enough to see us through to the end of the transfer window surely?
Yes and no, honestly. It's enough to see us through short term, but once one non-GK/ST player is missing, we're pretty goosed.

As for the formation thing - JOB isn't a right back, Keane isn't a footballer. Tarkowski and Gueye will start missing games this year, signs were already there towards end of last season. Coleman won't even be a squad player for a long time, if at all/ever.

CM is still light - Tim's just not that good*, sorry to say, and will likely be a backup, so we're left with Armstrong, Garner and Gueye (who will be gone midseason regardless). We can probably moves Charly there to fill a spot, but he's prone to misplay a ball or two and it's dangerous there.

Ndiaye is not and never will be a good right winger, Alcaraz played there last few times (official games) and he's also not a good right winger, as they're both not wingers at all. The other option is to shift either of them to left wing/behind the striker and put McNeil there, who is the most one-footed left side player in the team.

In the sense of "if Mykolenko gets injured we'll just play Coleman/Patterson there", yeah, we have players. In the sense of players playing where they're at their best - no, we don't.

So, back to one actual right back and 0 actual right wingers, as well as a central midfield area that's hilariously lightweight. Yes, we need players.

The bench is absolutely grim so no it isn’t. It is 2025 and teams are bringing half a fresh team off the bench on 60 minutes to change games, are we gonna respond with Tim Iroegbunam? What about when Gana’s minutes need managing because he’s, you know, 36? What about if McNeil is stinking the gaff out on the right wing, which he inevitably will because he can’t play there?

So it will do until September? sound.

Literally 3 of our new signings are on that 'absolutely grim' bench!

You seriously may as well just give up la if this is your attitude..

I know. But I mentioned it in relation to a claim he's been ultra positive since he got here.

He hasn't been.

He's been guarded and fenced a lot concerning what's possible here.

It's what he does, a leopard can never change its spots and I have no idea what people believe this time around is a changed man.

Zero ambition beyoind "getting higher up the table".

It's not good enough and never ever has been.

Yeah one of them is a keeper who’s never going to play and won’t be used off the bench in any scenario, and one of the others is a kid that played less than 20 career games. You are trying your best and failing miserably to make this look like a competent match day squad.

It's literally better than the one that ended last season  will clearly get better still as well..

We’ve got people trying to justify the current squad as it is, going into the start of the season. If you’d offered anyone this scenario in May, you’d have been shot down as a bed wetter.
