David Moyes has requested an advance on next year's television money

Really the ideal situation is to have three attacking players behind Jelavic who can swap positions at will and aren't bothered about being stuck on one side of the pitch. We don't really have that yet, but we do have wing players in Pienaar and Mirallas who can play both flanks well.

I heard there's a pretty good American player who can play behind the striker and on the wing...

Yeah but hes just signed for Tottenham.

Would make sense and would be a great present from the board.

Will it happen? Doubtful.

However, it could backfire. If we dont get Champions League and hes spent next years money. We are goosed and he will surely be gone!

I don't see how the Champions League matters, this money is income guaranteed regardless of league performance.

Of course it matters. If he spends money in January and fails to get a Champions League position. We're left with half/maybe no budget again next season.

So we would then need the sale of Fellaini to fund any good solid incomings - that will be good enough bolster the squad.

Then the rebuilding starts again...

Clubs already spend what they don't have, ever heard of bridging loans ? This would simply be giving him money now which we're guaranteed to get next season.

We dont... Not in recent years.

Im not saying its a bad thing. What i'm saying is it could backfire. He could spend half/all the money finish 7th and have a couple of flops on his hands.

Come the summer we have no budget. No European football and Moyes sees no other option but to end his stay with Everton there.

Im just putting the flip side on it. Which could happen. Nothing to do with how clubs spend money.

We've been taking bridging loans out for years. The reason we don't have money to spend on transfers is because we don't make any money. The new TV deal guarantees around £20m per season extra income, which will see us make a good profit.

The only way this plan of action could backfire is if we were to be relegated, otherwise we'd simply be operating a year in advance of income.

It backfires by convincing Moyes that he cant take us any further. Board backs him this January he fails to deliver Champions League/minimum Europe Id say he'd be pretty fed up.

All the signs coming from him that if he doesnt make the champions league this year hes gone.

He was quoted as saying a champions league position could give him the financial muscle to compete at the top for a couple of years. Basically saying without it he cant compete up there and does he really want to carry on with 7-8th placed finishes? Doubt it

6months on the contract. Balls in his court.

Again I think its a good idea but could backfire.

We've been using bridging loans just to operate. We're already a year if not two advanced. Whis to say this increase in TV money wont be used to balanced tve books each year. Id certainly assume that under this board!

Even if its not it will be eaten up by bigger wage demands within a couple of years

Good point actually; didn't think of a bridging loan being viable midway through the season.

THIS

also if we do get champions league we will probably need to spend to make sure we get past the qualifier, Even if we get europa league we need an extra 2-3 players just to have a squad big enough.

Its a fine line if we spend big now and dont make it were going to be in trouble.

Key thing for me is fellaini . If we can get some of the tv money early for january then we wont have to sell fellaini but if we have to wait till summer i would sell him now and get 25 mill to spend in jan and the tv money to spend in summer . We have shown we can cope without him and we could get 3 quality signings out of the money

Now is the time to invest in the playing squad, as we're within touching distance of the holy grail of the CL.

A couple of quality additions this window could give us some additional impetus to push on in the run in. If I was MOyes I'd be asking for exactly the same thing, as it makes perfect sense.
