Barkley was out for a while around last January too wasn't he?

I get your point on Gibson but before last season he did sporadically miss games, but his lack of appearance is down to not making the first team at United rather than injuries. Who knows? Maybe his luck is gonna turn for the better, rather than be another Norman Whiteside.

If he can get a prolonged run of games then he's as good as any centre mid we have at the club.

And, most importantly, he has the stern face and butcher accent to seem more formidable.

If we sign Remy and play 4-3-3 more often, we would need Gibson for the midfield 3.

Bobby has already spoke of the massive part he has to play this season. Can't see he's going anywhere!

when we signed Gibson wasn't he injured?
Or is my memory that bad?

No, he had been injured the summer before and returned to play for Man United a couple of times before joining us in Jan.

2011 - ankle injury, out until November
2012 - came back from euros, injured against aek athens, played first two games, injured against West Brom
2013 - injured against Real Betis, comes back and injured in 4th appearance back, on international duty

So, this is the closest he's had to an injury free pre-season since 2010. Obviously as he's still on the comeback trail it's not been a full intensity one, but onwards and upwards.

Players get injured. We might as well say that Oviedo is injury prone or Jagielka or Arteta.
Cruciate apart, Gibsons record at Everton has not been that bad.

That record speaks for itself, can we afford to keep him. And Kone is a similar case.
