I think you may be right about that Dave.

Whatever the reason, they seem to be trying to grab defeat from the jams of victory with every stupid thing the supporters do.

I think that their first league title in thirty years has passed over so quickly and quietly is annoying them.

I think that just maybe they have doubts as well about money being available to add to their squad.
They've always valued being noticed above all else. It's in the DNA of that club.

They will do just about anything to remain in the public eye. The asterisk title has been a mighty failure in that respect. The fact that in the teeth of a pandemic they will turn to chaos and disorder to make themselves seen and heard is the clincher for many people now: they are out of control and beyond the pale.

It's interesting really. Thats basically it. I'm seeing a lot of reds going on about how much Evertonians are bothered about them caring about the title. They're basically just speaking to themselves, getting themselves more and more worked up. It's funny as there's no actual enjoyment from them, there's just anger that other people aren't upset about it. When you view the world in those terms, it's very unlikely you'll ever be happy.

It's like buying a nice car, in the hope you'll make your work colleagues upset. I mean what a petty, small minded, brexity world view that is, which is them all over.

Sky had a bit of a go for them for a couple of weeks into making it a big deal, but there were just no takers beyond their glory hunting fans. It's hardly mentioned now, and you can tell when Tyler does, he feels a bit embarresed to do so.

Pretty soon, this will shift to shame as well. In years to come people will just look at this whole episode as shameful and ask how many lives were cost as a result of this.

The lack of humility from 99% of their fanbase to contextualise this season is astonishing. Most of them are a bunch of losers with nothing in their lives accept trying to hope other people become unhappy through their behaviour. It's the same impulse that drives the far right.

So these acts are not in any way any way a surprise. Of course they are going to target memorials to people who've died. It won't stop there either. It will just keep going on, as it's a weird cult full of virgins and narcissists who got bullied at school.

The Pier Head *event*:

IMO, they (rightly) realized that there will be no huge homecoming to rub everyone's noses in it and that this was as good as it was going to get. They had the animal cunning to work that out, at least.

The ramifications of that riot will be felt for years to come - just as their game against Atletico will.

I have no hesitation in claiming that these people are completely devoid of all adult responsibility. A club who's fans have traded in recent years on a 'collective' ethos have underlined they are the very opposite of that, and the reaction of 'fans union' the Spirit of Shankly affirms it.

you clearly don't live in the city then. All they did in the run up to last year's champions league final was daub red painted anti Everton graffiti in the vacinity of our ground.
Certainly live and work in our city. Can believe it of them but find it hard to believe it so soon after the pier head attack. But nothing surprise's me what they do now

I've never called them stupid, and don't believe them to be stupid. The "braindead idiot" excuse doesn't cut it with me. They are actually very attuned to what it means to be a Liverpool fan, the issue is the socialisation process involved with being a Liverpool fan is now inherently toxic. You see the same with Millwall, or England. This behaviour isn't an aberration, it's a core part of that ethos.

Those people, like SOS, the fan cam channels who went down there and encouraged others to do the same etc are a far bigger problem than the end idiots who do this stuff. They wind them up, provide them the intellectual basis to justify such behaviour and then act all shocked when it goes wrong. It's them I hold responsible.

To his credit, Klopp has actually called them out on this stuff, but he's a lone voice.

This 'It means more' strap-line they carry around with them: it's a license to riot and harm others.

I mean just to add to this though, and give some balance, we can all funnel the blame, fairly at the levers of Liverpool Football Club, but there comes a time when our own board are culpable as well. It's easy to slag off journalists, and particularly local journalists, but in all honesty the same standards just aren't being applied to our own board.

Imagine if Liverpool fans tried to torch the HQ of Manchester United, then went and set fire to and urinated on a memorial at OT (say the Munich air memorial). Or started taking stupid pictures by it to mock it as they have done etc. What do you think they'd have done?

We have Bill and Denise who just sit back and let it happen, like they sit back and let everything else happen. You want to know why Echo journalists don't cover it, at a meso level, because they know if they don't report it they get no hassle from Everton but if they report it accurately they get a load of trouble from Liverpool. Thats the reality. People in cultural institutions follow the path of least resistance.

So in fairness, why would Liverpool fan channels or fan groups bother to call out the criminality and disrespect shown again and again to the dead, when Everton can't even do so themselves?

The self proclaimed best fans in the world. The media and press always refer to their fan behaviour as "mischievous" when all they are,and have been since 1989 is neanderthal killers.

If that’s a reference to the only thing I think it can be in 1989 then I think you’re bang out of order . If it’s not then obviously correct me and I’ll apologise

I think it might be in the rs thread in world football, but Willian Dean's grand-daugher Julie has treated her feelings on the matter. Not only is it a disrespectful act to those who have left a memorial to their loved ones, but the man himself has family and is remembered by many and it's a contemptible way to treat the memory of a local lad from Birkenhead who was the greatest striker of his time, and arguably one of the best of all time.

They might share the name of the city, but as far as I am concerned their hatred and contempt of the city is becoming more and more apparent. My hope is that one day they leave the city to chase a franchise opportunity and more profit.

Yes it's a dog whistle. As is the "unbearables" tagline (I mean that really is the sort of phrase that you'd imagine an SA style fash group to work to). They share the sociological make up of fascistic groups. It's the same sort of worms who are trying to make themselves feel powerful. The lumpenproliteriat, with aspects of the petit-bourgoeisie mixed in. Essentially criminal types intent on violence.

Evertonians in this analogy represent the proliterian football club. Built upon values of solidarity, accessible to all aspects of the community, irrespective of faith or creed. That existence, and the quiet dignity we go about our business drives them nuts. No matter how many trophies they win, they will never have what we have. They'll never get over the fact it took them about 100 years to first win the FA Cup etc.

Are you referring to 1985 and Heysel?

1989 is asscociated with the terrible tragedy of Hillsborough - the actions of Liverpool fans there would have been the same as any other fan group. The inadequacy of crowd control techniques, the ineptness and cover up of the South Yorkshire police and authorities, and the downright shameful blaming and name-calling aimed at the fans fully justify the fight for justice and more than warrants the support from Everton and all right-minded supporters of any club.
