Damage to Dixie Dean statue

Thanks for sharing this. Proves that there is one or two of them with a bit of brain power. As he says, if anyone were to start destroying statues or anything around Anfield, it would be seen as a national disgrace. This adds in to that they clearly don't care about the city that they live in when everything is added together from the past 2 weeks. Would be nice to see Spirit of Shankley help fund the restoration of Dixies statue. Unlikely to see as they aren't directly involved but as a show of standing against some of the idiots who think this is acceptable.

Whatever we say about Shankly, he was a proper football man and a legend (much like Matt Busby). These people are working class heroes who've done more to help ordinary people in this country than most tory politicians combined. While I would have hated him in his day, I have nothing but respect for his record and what he achieved, much like Alex Ferguson really. Couldn't stand him as a manager, but what a figure.

Thats obviously translated down to his family too who spoke really well. Because they are primarily proper football people, they understand and recognise where Dixie Dean sits on that pantheon. Shankly himself didn't just see Dean as football great, but such was his brilliance someone who could be compared with Rembrandt, Shakespeare or Mozart as an individual that comes around once every hundred years or so, in any field. Meanwhile the neandarthals on the kop sing "who the F was Dixie Dean" 80 years after he left Everton (you can tell his legacy from that alone). I can't think of a single Liverpool player we'd be singing about in 80 years time. They're just not in the same calibre.

What is also striking to me, is the descendants of Dixie Dean, and Bill Shankly have condemned this action. In fairness even that whopper on the Anfieldwrap condemned it and pointed out it's a brilliant statue, not just for Everton but for the city of Liverpool. Yet as far as I can see, there is no comment from the football club. No condemnation. No apology. NO instructions their supporters to stop doing this. No commitment to ban those who partake in such actions or those who laugh about it and encourage it online. In situations like this, inaction is tacit support.

After the damage done to the statue of Merseyside's and the nation's best ever forward by the Kopite Visigoths, a small reminder today of the status he was held in by the civilsed:

Yeah but that Michael Foot wouldn't follow a good socialist club like Lidderpewl.o_O

It is to the absolute credit of that anfield wrap podcast that they’ve called this out .

Genuinely you have to give them the kudos they’re due , seems no hesitation or doubt in the unequivocal condemnation I saw . It would have been easy for them to ignore , they didn’t .

Really respect that personally .
I haven't heard it, but I presume it's of the "these people dont represent us / stop giving our critics the ammunition to fire at us" variety...which is what their apologists usually say.

I dont want to hear or read that.

I want some responsibility to be claimed for the atrocities they commit. You can be sure the Anfield Wrap has contributed richly over the years to the sense of entitlement and 'it means more' bollocks culture that they've created for themselves and which leads to the mentality that produces these acts of chaos and destruction.

I'd like one of these groups to simply say: "We're sorry. We cant go on like this. We have to sort this out - starting by examining our own attitudes before we go on to criticise and hammer the more obvious thugs we attract."

That ^^^ would represent a start at least, not the had wringing they usually pathetically offer.

Listen I don’t like Them , read my posts on the RS I’m no apologist and my reasons for that are myriad and deep rooted but it’s significantly more than I expected and I’m not going to be one eyed . They’ve called it out said it’s unacceptable, they’ve specifically referenced the wreaths , the importance of the man and the statue but also the symbolism.

It’s easy to moan and carry on , I do and you certainly do but if a major RS mouthpiece calls it out they deserve credit and if we can’t accept that than for me we do ourselves no favours . Just my opinion .

You could at least link the podcast in question or give a full breakdown of what was said.

Ok, just looked at that podcast/video and while I can agree that an attempt has been made to address that Dean statue incident it very much is in line with the "It doesn't represent any red" line...when it clearly does representing a faction of their support - and, as I stated, it in no way addresses the 'it means more' mentality they purvey and the pafrt that plays in the destructive acts we have to endure sporadically from them. It also is as much concerned (again as said) with image preservation for them.

Good but nowhere near getting the cigar.

google brings it straight up if you want to watch it . I’m no fan of the RS or the particular YouTube show , I’ve never watched before other than to sneer . I downloaded some stuff once when a mate was in hospital but they’re certainly not for me .

the basic outline is they reference the shankly dean relationship , praise his achievements, praise the statue as a local piece of art and it’s place at the heart of football within the city but then discuss the importance of the statue to Evertonians in relation to wreaths which are captured in the video . “a lines been crossed here” , “it’s a shame we’re talking about it but it’s right we’re talking about it “ “this doesn’t need to be challenged it needs to be condemned.”. Then meander down A lane of talking about banter being one thing but escalation of events leading to allegations whataboutery that has no place.

Like I say I’ve no time for the RS or more specifically this Anfield Wrap nonsense , was it perfect no of course not but I doubt we’d have expected them to condemn it , I didn’t .

Yeah, I just caught up with it (as stated above).

1989 has been mentioned in this thread. What people forget is we supported LFC when few others did. We played a FA Cup Final against them when we couldn't win either way. The annoying part for me is the element of LFC, Barnes the Dalglish clan and the owners who could do far more to call out this element of scum. The same scum who have tainted the area on European nights and since this Premiership win have been criminal in their actions in numbers. They have never improved since Hysel.
