Cycling thread

I've watched a fair few races from the roadside and having a womens race come through an 30-60 mins before the mens would certainly add to the occasion. There must be some logistical reasons preventing this from happening?

No idea to be honest mate, and I've always found it baffling why the governing body restricts the distance the women can race each day. It seems incredibly old fashioned.

Bryan Holm rips into Lappartient, who is having a bit of a mare since his appointment. Pretty much everything the bloke says is wrong.

I wonder what would happen if they banned power meters. I think pro riders are so well adapted that they might not miss them too much - if you trained 1000s of hours on a power meter then you're pretty much crystal clear on what your threshold feels like, what the red zone feels like. They're brilliant for us amateurs because we don't have that experience, so can't measure our effort nearly as well.

There's an excellent piece with Taylor Phinney on time trialling where he talks about not using them and finding them a hindrance - he's specifically talking about the TT but the point is that an exceptional athlete doesn't need his garmin telling him he's riding 400W.

Sounds like he's all over the shop and has been for a while.
Probably the most naturally talented cyclist of his generation - would go on the ale all winter then work the beer gut off Spring to throw it down with Lance et al in the Tour. Would have won ten tours with a level playing field.
