from 2011 but long ago lost those white tyres. scott spark rc, was a top end bike then I'd be right in thinking that it's still better than a lot of 'new' bikes ? (under a grand) everything fine on it he tells me & lets face it it's hardly likely to be pushed anywhere near any of its limits. I have to find better than I got the Mrs, just a bit of a drive that cba with.
No mate - MTB design took a great leap forward ten or so years back in terms of geometry, modern bikes are night and day better. Even something top end from that era would feel rubbish to ride now, in comparison.
It was driven by the wheel size change but the first gen of FS 29ers were actually rubbish - so this prompted a back to the drawing board re-design of the entire bike geometry to something that now rides better up, down, across, sideways, anywhere.

Totally fine to pick up an old 26er if you just want something to ride, get out and about on the trails etc. But if you're actually looking for some quality then it needs to be something newer.

White tyres is all a bit Spice Boys o_O
long since gone, the black & yellow 1's would probably suit it though

wont be doing anything like what it was designed for, as you say they had to redesign for 29" wheels, but this is 26 so the design/geometry suits. for the same price (around £400) i suppose i can go get a Carrera tank from Halfords that weighs about 5x as much instead, I've been riding a 'crap' bike from that era btw so it wont be like I'm 'going back' either if I get it.

Dont know if anybody know or is interested, but Giro do a helmet replacement scheme. Had a bad crash last week and the helmet saved me from a serious injury and helmet knackered. Got hold of Giro customer services and they have given me 40% off a replacement. Proof of purchase and damage required.

Another brilliant finish today, equals stage wins record.

Merckx was in a different league though. 5 TdF wins, 90 or so days in the yellow jersey etc. etc.

Not knocking Cav though, 34 mass start TdF stage victories far more than any other rider. What a specialist!

Taken this offer up with Giro. Cple emails to customer services, ordered new helmet on Thursday and delivered on Saturday, excellent service from them.

Cycle for prostate cancer research ?

I’ve been asked by several people how to support prostate cancer charities
I have myself run marathons and half marathons and my last event was walking 10 k a day everyday through March this year
In my opinion one of the best charities is Prostate Cancer UK who spend there money on research . I’m particular they are closing in on an early detection which will replace the variable nature of the PSA test
One of the events they regularly run caught my eye
They have a cycling challenge for individuals and teams so I was wonder tif if there’s any interest in a team from the GOT cycling thread
I dont cycle
But I will for this which involves cycling various distances every day in August
I’ll copy this the prostate cancer thread

Pity about that hotel raid in Pau.

Today's stage is war of attrition. Its uphill from thee start to the top of the Tourmalet.
From Bagnoles to St Mary long long drag.
I was tired out before I got onto the Tourmalet many years ago when I was able to do such things.

Kinda 1-2% uphill all the way isn't it? Dead straight road along the valley too. I've only done Luz Ardiden twice but both times it was kind of a bolt on to other climbs that day just because it's there, and as a result it was a real struggle both times. Blooming ugly ski hut thing at the top as well, which vies for Le Mongie in terms of its concrete monstrosity'ness.
